Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Petrol leak, 03 Passat 1.8t

    Hi,
my passat sprung a leak some time back on one of the hoses near the bulkhead, apparently it's been seen on a few of them. Anyway it was in a bad place spewing p[etrol in the general direction of the turbocharger. I got it repaired (section of rubber pipe with hose clamps put in ) but the bro is telling me it's leaking a bit, especially when first starting up (I guess the system is pressurized then).
I am nervous that it will leak again at some unpredictable stage in the future and me or the new owner will be in a bad situation. I'd like to get this sorted once and for all. Looks like new hoses will be fairly expensive
IIRC the price for the 3 hoses to from the tank (and breather I guess) are about 300 euro, plus fitting. Any guesstimates on fitting? it will be just removing the hoses and connecting new ones, or does something nasty have to happen regarding the tank or fuel pump?

    Hi Lads,
any idea of the labour and cost to replace these fuel lines?

The fuel line from the tank of my old Audi to the fuel pump was leaking earlier this year and I got charged about €300 to have the tank drained and the new line installed.

Oh and of course, have the petrol put back in! :D

Just to update this, it cost 600 on labour (they had to drop the tank apparently..)
As they were removing the tank I got them to change the fuel pump which had started humming about a year back. another 300+ lids.
Not cheap but I got 2 problems fixed permanently. I couldn't live with a botched/temporary fix job next to the turbo.

Yeah, they'd have to drain the tank then take it out, take off the old line and then attach the new line before putting the tank back in place.
€600 sounds quite a bit though.
Do you have a breakdown on the costs? I'd be interested to see where they accumulated. I'd imagine the pump might have borne the brunt of the total cost.

    Nah, the 600 was labour.
    Pump was 340
fuel line was 140 or something

It's mad money when you think about it.. Glad your problem is solved though.

Indeed, mad money, but it was in too dangerous a spot to bodge. One VW specialist in Dub already tried and it leaked a bit when starting... I tightened the hos clips, still leaked, tightened a bit more and it stopped, but tbh the hose was in danger of getting cut up by the clip or even the remains of the pipe.
In my youth I had a peugot 104zs, the fuel pump cracked and peed juice all over the head and it went up. As I had the hood up it was realitively easy to quench, but putting out one engine fire is enough for anyone. I always carry an extinguisher since then

At least I can be happy about this and sell it in full peace of mind when it comes that.
