sighting of my stolen bike

My bike got nicked from house from in Kimmage in July, but last week me and my mates spotted it outside the cinema at Parnell St. its a maroon ladies bike with Margharita Professional on the crossbars. pretty sure whoever was cycling it wasnt the one who nicked it.

What happens if the person who has the bike says it's hers?

How do either persons prove who owns it? I mean it could be secondhand and even a receipt doesn't prove that the bike is actually the one that was stolen?

take the serial no or leave a note under the saddle.

that is just hilarious. kudos for the un-invasive approach although i seriously doubt that you'll see the bike ever again.
should really have called the cops and let them sort it out with whoever came to unlock the bike.
pitty you let such a unique chance slip.

i hope you'll have better luck with bikes in the future (or might even get this one back;)).
