Anyone able to find any info on Torres and Gerrard? Will Gerrard even make the squad?

Also what about Rooney does he have a chance of playing?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,617 ✭✭✭✭PHB

Without Fletcher, I think we'll really really struggle. I think for us to win this, whoever is in midfield for us, whether it be Anderson, Carrick, Giggs or O'Shea, will have to put in an astonishing performance above their usual level. Thank god that Liverpools midfield is so weak right now, because if Alonso was playing today, we'd be in massive trouble in there. Gerrard however is going to have a lot of fun today if he plays.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,824 ✭✭✭ShooterSF

Shame about Fletch. These games are the type he revels in. Could be some clash in midfield still if Gerrard makes it and Giggs starts as we would be watching the two players of the year from last season.
These games are impossible to call so I'm going with my heart and calling a United win with Vidic opening his account for the season against 'Pool's current set-piece chaos.

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,160 ✭✭✭tok9

Very nervous about this one.... Hoping for a 2-1 but for that everyone will have to perform whether if gerrard and torres start or not!

Fletcher is a big loss for united and Liverpool need to take advantage of it. Masch will have to control the midfield and lucas needs to be more adventurous.

I expect both Johnson and Torres to start anyway. LW is between Aurelio and Babel for me. It would be great to see Babel start and have an excellent game and score another against the big four but realistically Aurelio is the safer option.

    1-1 i'd say but hopefully 2-1.

Just watching Mascherano's self destruct act at Old Trafford two seasons ago on MUTV. Ah, good memories.

    vds
    oshea---Rio---vidic

    valencia---carrick---ando---giggs

Given Fletch's absence ( :( ) I reckon this is our best option, with Scholes, Nani & Owen as possible subs.

    Evra
    Valencia---Carrick---Ando---Giggs
    Berba----Rooney

Owen to come on in the 30-20 mins maybe.

Berbatov is essential in this game as we are likely to get overrun in midfield and need up top to keep possession really well.

Headshot i've noticed this in a few of your posts,
why do you always put Rooney with a capital R and not for the others?
I know you have Rio too but it's always Rooney with a capital R :P.

I am going for Liverpool 1 up at half-time, with united winnning 2-1 with Owen scoring inthe last 10 mins

Whatever way this match plays out, this thread is gonna make for very entertaining reading later.

Imagine if there is a similar finish to the Manchester derby? The soccer forrum would go into complete meltdown

    VDS
    O'Shea --- Ferdinand --- Vidic --- Evra
    Valencia --- Anderson --- Giggs --- Nani
    Berbatov --- Rooney/Owen

    My team prediction.
Score prediction? I'll be cheeky and say 3-1 to United, based purely on the dreadful form of Liverpool recently.

But no matter what the score is, its gonna be a brilliant game. Good luck!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,772 ✭✭✭✭Paul Tergat

Id be pretty concerned if that was our midfield mitch.

Can anyone see Fergie going 4-5-1?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,003 ✭✭✭✭The Muppet

Fletch is a big loss but I don't think Liverpool have the players available to over run United in midfield. I think it'll be 4 5 1, Valencia Carrick Anderson Scholes and Giggs assuming all are available,

Is that assuming Rooney doesnt play muppet? Or is it with Berbatov up front. I really dont want just Berbatov up front on his own

very high probability i'd say. At the very least, he'll be telling Rooney to drop back and support the midfield whenever they don't have the ball.

I do have a horrible feeling tha Roo won't be fit and we'll go a 4-5-1 with Berba up top. But I'm crossing my fingers for Rooney. We'll soon find out!

This appears to be the Liverpool team.

    Reina

    Johnson
    Carragher
    Agger
    Insua

    Kuyt
    Mascherano
    Lucas
    Aurelio

    Benayoun
    Torres

If it wasnt for the ****ing clocks going back we'd know the teams by now and it'd be 15 mins before KO

Am I missing something? Why is Goals on Sunday still on? Isn't the match coverage supposed to start at 12.30?

Nani on the bench, push Giggs out left and start Carrick. Although if Rooney is definitely out I can see 4-5-1 with Berba up front on his own and Owen getting the last 30mins or so.

Should Rooney start of course but I think its a given that Rooney will do some of the defensive work.

    LOL at the MUTV converage.

Showing highlights from previous games, with a red Beach Ball superimposed over the ball (to the tune of 99 red baloons)

Opening line is: "They told us to come back when we had 18. Well, here we are."

I think we'll start with one up front, Rooney if available or berbatov if Rooneys not available. If both start we could see Rooney on the left at the expense of Giggs or Scholes .
