i can give you a few numbers for temporary accomodation. i say temporary coz they'd only be somewhere you'd stay while u look for somewhere decent.

If you're staying anywhere near base, go look in the launderette a few doors down towards the water. Theres a noticeboard on there with a loada offering places. also, theres one around the corner from that just off Acland St down across from the ANZ ATMs. Its just a few signs on the door of a cafe.

Look for Jackson apartments too. They always have a few bachelor pads, ie studio apartment, which are pure basic. Literally one room with a double bed, TV kitchenette and jacks. I stayed there with the missus when we were stuck. hostel was too expensive and they're about the same price as a decent apartment. you can pay weekly too.

gumtree is pretty ****. If theres no phone number on the ad, chances are its a scam. Or if it seems too good to be true, its a scam.

If you're stayin in a hostel, ask around to see if anyone wants to go halves on a 2 bed place. Getting your own place is way too expensive to be worth it.
