Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

anybody know if internal glazing from bedroom to double height void that includes a kitchen can be
    -normal class glazing
    -fire resistand glazing
    -containing an opening section
if so what class must this glazing be?

refer to TGD K for guarding of glazing which will dictate what areas need to be toughened.

Refer to TGD B and BS5588 part 1 for fire rating. personally i would aim for at least 1/2 hr (30 - 30 - 30) fire resistance, structural integrity and fire spread.

    thanks Syd.

I have trawled thru Part B.
wasn't the much wiser afterwards - Ill have a look at
    the BS you mentioned.

phoned the DOE (dep. environment) Building Standards in order to talk to Building Standards in relation to part B. They wouldn't advise me and passed me on to the local Building Control officer..........I would think that the dep.of environment Building Standards would be able to offer advice...why else are they there?

there seem to be no guidance on the possibility of an opening section in
this internal window in Part B. not that I can find - its not the easiest document to navigate around !!!

    if anybody has any clues?

The general rule for say upper floor construction or a prptected stairs might be 30 minutes, but you cannot provide that in where there's an opening section.

You cannot rely on an automated solution in a house where as sure as God made little apples, someone will leave a jumper on the sill preventing the window closing automatically, even were it to be linked to the fire alarm system.

I think this may need a specialist response from a Fire Safety consultant.

    ONQ.
