    A woman has died and a man has been seriously injured after a stabbing incident in Tullamore, Co Offaly, this evening.

    The incident happened in a first-floor apartment off High Street in the town around 7pm.

    Locals say the alarm was raised following a dispute involving a couple who are living in the apartment.

    The woman was found with multiple stab injuries to her stomach and chest on the floor of the apartment.

    It is understood the man who was with her in the apartment had minor injuries to his neck, hand and stomach.

    The man has been brought to the Accident and Emergency department in the Regional Hospital in Tullamore.

    Gardaí have sealed off the apartment and a major investigation is underway.

    You hear things on the news like that all the time but its not that often its so local thank god but its still a tragedy no matter where it happens.
