Without Berto I can't see astana getting an invite for the tour, and now if they retain him Vino won't be allowed ride it... which is the whole reason astana still exist at all... no win really. I actually feel a little sorry for Vino here.

I'd quite like to see them all there. Who wouldn't want to see Basso, Berto, Vino, LA, the Chicken, Sastre, the Schleks, Valverde, and Evans, everyone, all on different teams duking it out in the mountains? If it was up to me I'd be starving and transfusing Ullrich back into form just to make the spectacle complete.

Of that list of 10 cyclists, I can tell you that there are at least 4 / 5 that I would prefer never to see again.

    Let me guess...

Basso, Vino, LA, the Chicken, Valverde

Jan is still doing some good mileage in Switzerland : the situation between him and the UCI is ongoing though.

I've a contact who actually works for Jan : Jan wants to race but there are issues.

Whatever else anyone may say, he was a great rider.

Jan winning the TDF at 23 was the worst thing that ever happened to him.

He went in to winter 1997 : eating/drinking partying.
Each successive winter he would go back to the same routine.

    He never wintered well.

Has he got a alu/steel seat post as a carbon one wouldn't hold him?

Well looks like this is finally sorted...
Almost as bad as Ronaldo to Real (and I hate Man U)

After months of uncertainty, the Astana cycling team has finally received its ProTour license for 2010. This latest development brings an end to a saga that has covered the headlines in recent months. According to Het Nieuwsblad, the Kazakh formation has fulfilled the International Cycling Union (UCI) requirements, and the news is expected to be confirmed by the UCI ProTour Council later this afternoon.

Rumor has it that there may be a name change for Astana to "Samruk-Kazyna" the Kazakhstan national development fund that is providing the 15 million.

Wonder what chance that NAMA might fund a pro team for next season :)

See also that Oscar Pereiro has signed a one year contract with Astana, probably bit fed up with his (lack of) support at Caisse d’Epargne.

@hinault agree with your sentiments on poor old Jan. Still remember his ascent of Alpe d'Huez in his 1997 TDF victory, his power output as he sat in the saddle was awesome. Great talent but just couldn't overwinter.
