Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

That'll do nicely for the playoff's! Now just for Benzema, Henry and Anelka to suffer a few nasty knocks!

Franck Ribery looks likely to be sidelined until 2010 after his doctor revealed the full extent of his persistent knee injury.

Reports suggested earlier this week that the Bayern Munich playmaker would be out for around a month, meaning he would miss France's World Cup play-off against Republic of Ireland as well as a number of key games for his club.

However, Professor Jean-Henri Jaeger has now estimated that Ribery will not be fit to return to action for a minimum of two months, while he could also face surgery if treatment fails.

With the Bundesliga breaking for the winter after 20th December, Ribery is therefore facing a long wait before he can get back on the pitch.

"It's one month's treatment, plus one month's rehabilitation," said the specialist.

"So that means two month's minimum before Ribery returns to the game. If it works, he will be able to play again. If it does not work, it will require surgery."

The 26-year-old has been hampered by tendinitis in his left knee all season and France's deputy national coach Alain Boghossian expects him to undergo surgery.

"Bayern does want him to have an operation. They are mulling it over," said Boghossian.

Ribery's agent has confirmed the player could need an operation if his recovery did not go as hoped.

"After consulting Professor (Jean-Henri) Jaeger, we will give it four weeks to see how the injury evolves," Jean-Pierre Bernes told Canal+.

"We spoke with the Bayern management. An operation is possible if the recovery is not satisfactory."

well this seems like it then that he will miss the playoffs.
    Good for us

When I heard he be out for month or so I was thinking he may be back in time for playoffs ya know the way it is sometimes when you hear players getting injuried and its not as bad as first seems

As much as it helps us I'd rather we didn't take so much pleasure in a players injury

Cake, and grief counseling, will be available at the conclusion of the test

I'd prefer Ireland to beat them at full strength if we do beat them at all. That is what competition is all about. If we can't do that then Ireland don't deserve to be the finals. Of course there is nothing we can do if Ribery, Benzema, Henry etc. cannot play but I would just prefer Ireland to beat them at full strength. It would be a true test of how good Ireland actually are.

I'd prefer to beat them if Ireland were at full strength, but thats a different kettle of superman underpants.

What you say is very honourable, but fook that we will and have to take every bone we are thrown.

He has always had injury problems, it's one of the main reasons I didn't want United to sign him.

I hope he gets back to full fitness, just not in the next month.

I have no problem taking delight in this injury. :D

He's their best and most consistant player right now and then one Frenchman that I could see really tearing our defence apart.

Now instead of the quick route to goal at the feet of Ribery they have to play through us and that's what they're not doing well these days.

Just to add before the inevitable recriminations: if his injury was career threatening I'd obviously be dissappointed for the guy and would take a different stance on this.

I've read Henry is a minor risk (to miss at least one of the matches), just how minor I wonder.

    Anyone any better info?

Doubt it really. Everyone would prefer Ireland to beat them at full strength.

I'd prefer if our one central midfielder who is decent wasn't injury prone. Some things just aren't going to happen.

Ribery is out, that's great. I'll take whatever bit of fortune comes our way.
