Disabling firewall on NTL router

    Hi,

I have a NTL router EPC2425 since July. It has always been a bit flakey, particularly wireless.
I now have a siemens IP Dect phone connected to it (wired), subscribed to Blueface.
The problem is that it keeps losing its registration to the Blueface server and it appears to be firewall related. I have followed all of the port-forwarding config suggested by Blueface but the only thing that seems reliable is to disable the following on the EPC2425:
    Setup-Firewall Options-Firewall Protection
    Setup-Firewall Options-IP Flood Detection
I'm not sure if both of these are having the effect or only one.

The EPC2425 documentation does not seem to elaborate on what protection these provide,am I opening my network up too much by disabling these?
