Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Can anyone help?
It's my sons computer. he's always downloading games from wherever and his computer is constantly riddled with trojans and viruses.
I ran the reg checker from ccleaner on there a few weeks ago and we've been having trouble starting it ever since. It get stuck on various pages during the startup.
At first it was taking us a few reboots to get it on but now its not coming on at all.
So how do I boot up the computer, with no discs?
The keyboard doesnt work until its on so that's no help.
I googled this problem and found out that if i click delete as its coming on that takes me into 'bios' or something. That only worked once but then it crashed again and i turned it off at the wall.
Its running XP by the way.

The keyboard should work from when you power up.

My advice is to put the machine into safe mode. This is done by continuously pressing F8 after the initial screens and then selecting safe mode.

You may need to go into the BIOS to turn on USB support for the keyboard so that you can use it while the computer is starting up. The BIOS is accessed from the first screen you see when you turn on the power, normally you have to press the delete key or one of the "F" keys to get into the bios.

If you get in and it is viruses etc, you need to get some anti virus and run that.

So your keyboard doesn't work but you managed to press delete to get into BIOS??

Unless youve done something absolutely stupid like removed the CD Drive as the primary boot device, that should work fine.

Eliminate a hardware problem. Check if you can access the machine normally using a live Linux CD like Ubuntu or Linux Mint. You should have the ability to browse and interact with Data on the Windows drive.

    thanks.
    Is that easy to do?
I'm too tired to get my head round it right now but will try in the morning.

One more question before I get off to me bed.
This may be a stupid question but does the battery affect boot up?
I'm only wondering because the clock kept showing random times the last few times the computer was on.

It could I suppose. They only cost a fiver to check.

I have never had to try it. But it will offer you up a ton of options. Virus scans, backing up files, or simply (my personal favorite) reformatting the whole damn thing and starting over from scratch.
