OK i need a new smartphone.
    Basically i need:
    Proper (POP3) email.
    Proper internet.
Proper GPS (by proper i mean that the internal GPS receiver actually works with good 3rd party satnav software like Tomtom, Garmin XT etc and where a data connection is not necessary, only optional).
    Bluetooth.
    Wifi.
    Good hardware qwerty (slider).
Good Touchscreen with multitouch functionality (capacitive preferably).
No restrictive/bull$hit/proprietary stuff like "no copy and paste" etc.
Good open OS with good range of freeware (don't wanna be spending too much on apps if there's a free alternative tbh).
    Light: <130g preferably (<150g at a push).
    Thin: <12mm preferably (15mm at a push).
Digital TV tuner would be nice.
    Decent processor, memory, storage etc.

    I'm considering:

N97: Ticks a lot of the boxes and 32 gb storage is cool. I'm concerned the GPS chip won't be free enough to work with any 3rd party app and that it might be unreliable though.
Also it's a bit chunky and have read some bad reviews (saying it's a step down from the N95 8gb heyday- how true is this).

HTC Touch Pro 2: WinMo- even though it's capable and an open OS, i'm a bit sick of it's idiosyncracies/user-unfriendliness at this stage. But the Touch Pro 2 is a contender because technically it ticks a lot of the boxes above.

HTC Hero: Thinking about Android given its seemingly open nature. But again no hardware qwerty. Wondering about the maturity of 3rd party app support (satnav apps etc). Does Android do a hardware qwerty device.

Iphone 3s (?) thing: Multitouch, nicely implemented, but no hardware qwerty, apple's restrictive bull$hit, does it do proper office/email? even, GPS 3rd party support not developed yet.

    Any other contenders?
Any genuine killer devices coming down the pipeline.

Can't believe WinMo haven't improved to compete with the other OS's in terms of usability tbh.

Will there be any real improvements in usability (multitouch etc) with Windows Mobile 7?
Seems a bit of an unknown entity.
And when is it due anyway- late 2010?

Have you considered the Palm Pre?

The iPhone does have Tomtom, navigon, iGO and copilot which work as standalone GPS apps.

    No tbh.
Just looked at the engadget review and it's UI looks cute.

    Few problems though.
Restricted to 8gb storage- with no micro-sd slot.
Not sure about the nature of the GPS.
A landscape slider would be handier probably.
Also dunno how big the 3rd party app selection is.
