After further thought about my previous post, I'd recommend you change your motherboard.

    Here's one:
    http://www.ebuyer.com/product/173450
    (or http://www.komplett.ie/k/ki.aspx?sku=487820)

You can use this 1600MHz RAM with it, which is better than my earlier 1333MHz Kingston recommendation.

    http://www.ebuyer.com/product/173129

I can't seem to download the QVL from ASUS to check if these exact modules will work. You can try yourself now, and if it doesn't work, try tomorrow.

    http://asus.com/product.aspx?P_ID=j02KziJq95KbCQNm&templete=2

Just click the Download tab, select any OS, and click on Qualified Vendor List. Choose the second on the list to download supported 1600 modules in document format, and find an exact or an approximation of the module kit's model number. The new module kit I have recommended is CMX4GX3M2A1600C8, so I'd use a shorter search term (i.e. CMX4GX3M2A) on the document's list and see what comes up.

One final thing. If you look at the Komplett link I posted, it will tell you what "Accessories" (i.e. memory) modules can be bought alongside it. Take your pick! I'd also check the "Manufacturer P/N" (model number) on any of the models on Komplett you show interest in and see if it's in the QVL before buying, just to be certain.

Ok guys, I've changed the mobo and Ram based on the previous two comments suggested by deciefer.

Can someone lend their comments to this list now?

Are these mobo and Ram components compatable?

Surely you can order this whole lot cheaper from one site - hardwareversand.de

It's not cheaper when you have to hire a German to sort out any RMA you might have.

    Stick with Ebuyer.

lol! So how's it shaping up then? Are all the components compatable? mobo-ram-spu???

Yeah everything is fine. I would still rather go with a Gigabyte UD3 or UD4 Mobo and the Kingston Ram, but it's your call and what you have picked is by no means poor :D

Edit: Wait, that ram is no Good. Wow, that's a pretty bad labelling error I hope. The P55 Chipset is supposed to have a vDIMM of 1.5v not 1.65v. That Ram needs too much voltage.

Yeah, just swap the Ram for a Ram that runs at 1.5v, not 1.65v.

    And get a Gigabyte Board :P (j/k)

But Srsly tho, change the ram for a kit that runs at 1.5v or you'll fry your CPU (Not likely, but maybe)

Could someone link me to the specific RAM that will also be compatable with my mobo? It's all very confusing, I just don't want to get something and for it to not work. Thanks.

This is the Ram I use and it works incredibly. I managed to get it to 6-6-6 timings at 1200Mhz but it also worked at 1600 10-10-10 :D Either way, the performance is just fine :) And it's Great Value, and Kingston are a fantastic brand.

And don't worry, It can get confusing. Basically the new LGA1156 Socket asks for Low Wattage 1.5v Ram. :D

Ok Leman Russ...how about this set up now with your suggested RAM?
Christ this is awful complicated for a newcomer to the scene, but am enjoying the learning experience.

As the Penguin said to the Helicopter, "Flange".

Errr, I mean yes, that looks perfect now. :D

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,212 ✭✭✭DECEiFER

My apologies, I wasn't aware that using more than 1.5v RAM was going to create stability/heat issues on the i5 boards. My kit runs at 1.9v on the LGA-775 sockets.

I think what you have selected FOAK is a system you can be happy with. You have everything you need to get going, inc. the WLAN Adapter and OS. Anything else is an optional extra.

    Enjoy it!!!

Thank you guys for all the help over the past few days. Without ye I would'nt have been able to see past my own nose in this area. I'll get to work ordering the components and then when I've it all together I'll pop up a few photo's for ye.

Once again, thanks to everyone who contributed on this thread.

    Make one up.

Ebuyers site only works with UK Numbers, so make up a UK number :P

For the Postcode, you have to put REP 123 or REP IRE for their internal warehouse system to know you live in Ireland, and cause you are in Ireland, they contact you via email rather than phone :D

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,055 ✭✭✭Four of a kind

got number sorted...but now have "property name/number"-which I made up.

And I put in REP IRE and REP 123 but both failed.

    http://static.ebuyer.com/customer/enotes2/index.html?rb=0&action=U2hvd1R5cGU=&intNoteCatID=6&intNoteTypeID=83

Property Name/Number should be your house number, like if you lived at 56 Bob Road, you'd put 56 in that field :D

Try REP IRE and REP 123 with and without the spaces. One of them should work. REP 123 worked for me anyway

I've a problem selecting a suitable wireless card for my build. I've already ordered Windows 7 64-bit, but my mate who's going to be putting my rig together said he can't find a wireless card thats compatable with 64 bit??!! :(

I want something thats stable esp when gaming online.

Can any of you guys link me to a suitable card? I have the silver netopia broadband unit as my broadband .

    There's plenty out there.

My friend uses an el cheapo USB adapter he got from Ebuyer and it works fine on his Windows 7 x64 OS. Hell, the drivers are even installed by Windows Update (again, el cheapo). Another friend's new laptop has 7 x64 on it and the built-in device works without the need for a driver installation.

Chance this (not the same as my friend's no-name brand, but should work nevertheless):

btw, don't use a USB dongle if you plan on doing online gaming.

99% of cards will be automagically detected by Windows 7.

I am using W7 64 bit too, with a crappy belkin card that doesn't even have 64bit drivers to download, and it automatically got generic chipset drivers for me :)
In short, don't sweat it too much :D

Here's the final set-up that I ordered and should have delivered next week. Used ebuyer, overclockers and Komplett.

The total sum inc deliver for all was €1200, which I know is probably a few hundred over priced but considering my budget was €1,500 and its my first time to spec out a custom build I guess I can only learn :)

Once again thanks to every one that contributed to this thread with there expert advice and tips. Really could not have done it any other way.

I'll pop up a few pics when I get it sorted.

    Thanks.

It lets him have an upgrade path for a N Router.

Do you tell the person buying a 5850 that unless they have 3 Monitors it is pointless?
