be carefull buying plasmas .. they suck the juice

LCD panels using standard CCFL-based backlight systems require typically 30% less power than 1080p plasma displays of the same screen size; they also require some 20% less power than equivalent size 720p plasma displays. This difference in power requirements between the two display technologies becomes more pronounced as one moves towards the larger end of the scale, i.e. 55-inch and above. LCDs using LED backlights are even more energy efficient - with edge-lit LED TVs using less power than corresponding LED TVs using local dimming technology.

Plasma is much better now though, than a couple of years ago. On the Samsung UK website, it says a very similiar 42" model uses only 170W operating, which isnt too bad at all. Theres very little difference at this stage between plasma and normal LCD screens

That one may only be HD ready but for normal every day SD watching, it would be fine. If i were getting a 42" HD ready plasma, i would get the panasonic equivalent model, the 42X10, it might be a 100€ or so more than that one though

    Hey craichoe

Whats the name of the store where they have it for €444. I want to avail of D.I.D. double the difference offer. :D.
It does not apply to online stores only retail stores.

I have this cable that should bring it to 1080p.

The cable you have makes no difference if the television is not capable of 1080p. Monster cables are a waste of money also. A €5 will provide the exact same image.

If your cable is still in it's original package I'd return it for your money back, won't make a bit of difference, pick up a cable for a tenner instead ;)

HDMI is a digital signal, it either works or it doesn't :)

D.I.D. have said in their ads that if you find a product cheaper somewhere else, they'll give you double the money of the product or something like that. Did anyone else hear about that?

    Hey Mayoegian

I have checked the T & C regarding the D.I.D. offer. It only applies to retail stores and not online offers. :(

LCD uses about the same power , they have a constant light in the back and blocks it off depending on what is on the screen.

PLASMA uses more power when showing brighter stuff as it only lights up parts of the screen as needed, if you watch a lot of dark stuff it may even use less power than LCD

Did a lot of looking before I bought my tv and I found LCD to be more artificial looking, I went for plasma in the end and I'm happy I did. Using a bit more electricity is worth it imo, I turn off the light when I'm watching so it evens out :D
