Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Windows 7 Professional E? Questions.

I just found out Dabs is selling - on clearance - copies of Windows 7 Professional E. As I understand from Wikipedia, Windows 7 E versions were to be a European version of Win7 without Internet Explorer to ship in Europe and appeal to EU antitrust regulators. But the program was abandoned, with alternative arrangements made in all versions of Win7.

Dabs is selling this at a significant discount. It would appeal to me since I ONLY use Firefox.

So, I have two questions, if anyone more knowledgeable than me can clarify.
    1. Is my understanding correct, these E versions are the no-Internet Explorer versions and some copies of it somehow got out before the plan was scotched?
    2. If I were to grab one of these babies, could I pay for it down the line with lack of updates or faster obsolecense? i.e. if the version is considered abandoned.
    Thanks in advance

I thought the E version was done away with, and only one version was shipped?

I ordered from Amazon, and it was the E version (since there was an E version at the time), but in the end I just got Windows 7 Professional.

    Same here.

How is €172 a massive discount, what rip off cost are they putting on this?

The Windows 7 Professional E is a Retail box, or so they claim.

The comparable Komplett item, Win7 Pro Retail box, is €209.

That makes the (seemingly) limited edition Windows 7 Pro E, €37 cheaper than its non-E counterpart.

Which brings me back to my main question (if this E-version exists) is this likely to be treated by Microsoft as abandonware?

I'd bet that it's a mistake and there is no E version at all. If you order it, I'll bet that they will ship you the standard version (since there is only one version).

Different companies have different prices for Windows 7, so the difference might just be their margin.

Windows 7 E was leaked on to P2P networks shortly after the OS turned RTM. So it might be possible that some copies were made but I'd find it unlikely.
