What music player do you use?

I was using Amarok, but just installed Songbird and it's decent looking so I may switch to it.

I second mpd, a great network music server but I use Sonata for the GUI.

No, Rhythmbox is a complete player within itself. mpd + gmpc is the Music Player Daemon, combined with the Gnome Music Player Client (IIRC).

Amarok is a very nice and rich.
Most of the time though, I just use mpg123 from a terminal.

I'm using Rhythmbox... mostly out of habit than for any idea of technical or practical superiority. It responds to the media-buttons on my laptop, which surprised me quite a bit.
