A few things strike me about the NCT website.

Firstly, no Real World address. Yes, they have a contact telephone number, but the lack of physical address immediately starts alarm bells ringing.

Secondly, who accredits the courses? I could set up a course and award you a certificate, but how highly regarded would such a certificate be in the industry?

The CMIT looks more verifiable as they are registered with FETAC, which is a national body.

The NCT courses are modules of a L3 NVQ Certificate in Engineering Maintenance.

NCT were taken over by a training group called OakCAD who have full details on their website...

It might be worth having a look at Teeside University. They offer HNC qualifications in similar areas through distance learning. They are fully accredited and I think a HNC would be higher than level 3 on the NVQ.

Wouldnt it be better for You to take some online course for example from Sligo IT? Or CIT? If You are paying for this it is way better to have degree from some registered Institute. Online studying is tricky, look for a subjects they are providing, if they have any practical ones (for example if there is need to go evening or weekends labs for a few times), as this is very important, it will not be very helpful to gain a degree where all You got was only theoretical knowledge.:D
