Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Trip in July or August????
Hi there! Last July I travelled through Thailand,Laos,Vietnam & Cambodia, and really enjoyed it. I loved the sights, sounds, smells, culture etc. Next summer I can take 4 weeks off in either July or August. I was planning to go to Tibet and /or Nepal including Everest Base Camp. I have been told however, that this is monsoon season and not ideal for travel.
So any advice on a place to visit for 4 weeks next July or August? I love adventure travel, experiencing different cultures, in particular love the Buddhist religion and traditions. I am very active and love outdoor adventure.
    I would appreciate your advice!

Borneo? Pretty much an outdoor place! Lots of treking to be had.

Boards poster RATM did the trek to EBC in August.

It's a bit of a gamble going this time of year because of the weather but the pay off is that the trail will be way less crowded.

    Some of my favourites ....

    London to Iran
    Istanbul to Cairo
    Trans-Mongolian
    Gobi Mongolia
    Northern India
Patagonia (not advisable in July however)

    Thanks for the responses;
That Everest trip sound amazing;but u might need a holiday after it to recover. I hear that July & August are monsoon season so;lots of rain, mudslides, sodden tracks & clouds obscuring views of the Himalayas;is a bit of a risk going at this time; could be amazing or a complete washout!

I was also considering 1/2 countries in South America.
A trip to a country in Central America;maybe Costa Rica!
A climb of Kilimanjaro in Africa.
Yea Borneo is an option or maybe China, Bali etc

I think wherever u go there are pros and cons;is tricky!!

When I did the Annapurna Circuit I actually felt great afterwards. Walking for hours and hours a day for a couple of weeks obviously made me way fitter and I felt superhuman in the thick air at lower altitudes! What you have mentioned above is perfectly true about rain, obscured views etc but as I was saying, you'll likely have the trail virtually to yourself most of the time and that's the biggest guaranteed payoff. If you are particularly interested in Buddhist culture, you might want to consider the trek to Upper Mustang.

I would highly recommend East Africa (Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda). So many highlights including Zanzibar, Serengeti/Ngorongoro Crater, Gorilla Trekking, Masaii Mara, rafting the Nile, beaches in coastal Kenya etc. Not exactly cheap though, especially the safaris.
