You should try to fill the page. In the evalution say why it was useful as a source and it's strengths and weaknesses. You need three sources FYI and one should be from a historian.

Ahh yes, the good ole research project, did the leaving cert last year, the report wasn't that hard. I got 97% in mine, was delighted!

    Here we go,

If you're doing higher level history then you really should have at least three sources. They don't all have to be prime source (e.g. diary, biography, state document, etc..) they can be secondary specialist sources too (e.g., a book write on the subject by an accredited historian).

The evaluation of sources should only be a page long. When you get the report book to write up the report you'll soon see why. They only give a page for you to write for the evaluation of sources so that's all they expect you to give.

Basically, in the evaluation of sources you only really need to discuss the validity of the source you picked? Why you thought it was a good source? Was it worthwhile? Did it have any flaws? How could the source have been improved on by the author in terms of a secondary source? Was it a good source for you research and essay? What type of information did you use from the source in your extended essay?, etc...

Don't wright too much for each source when evaluating. Only about a third of the page for each source. One off the skills you learn from a project such as this is not to waffle on while writing essays. Be concise, clear and to the point.

In terms of the outline plan, you should only write about a page also (again this will be apparent when you get the report book to write the project in). The outline plan is basically what it says on the tin - an outline plan. Write about why you chose this project? What motivated you to choose this project title? Does it have any historical relevance? Did it have an major/ minor impact on society? How do you plan on going about researching this project (library, internet, national archives)? What issues do you wish to consentrate on in the project (Politics, socio-economic issues, cultural issues (keep in mind that this is the "big three" when it comes to historical research and history essays))?

It is vital that you keep to your outline plane when researching and writing your exended essay as at the end of the extended essay you will have to write a review which must include how well you followed you ouline plan.

Hope this help and good luck in the LC! :)

P.S., Your history teacher should have explained this already.

Why do I keep helping people on this project:rolleyes: Your using thier statements where exactly? I'm not sure about the word count but it must go down to the end of the page. In the outline plan you have to list off the sources as well. Are you aware of this?

is it ok to use the internet as one of your sources?

I think you're allowed to use the internet as long as the website your using is a credible source. For example, does the website have references as to where it got the information? Is the author(s) of articles in the website a trustworthy provider of information, e.g., a historian? Personally, I wouldn't advise using internet websites as completely trustworthy sources, going to the library is probably your best option in terms of specialist secondary sources. You may however come accross good prime sources on the internet with might be hard to find in the library. An example of this is the Irish National Archives website where the 1911 census of Ireland can be accessed freely by the public, it also contains scans of original census documents. You might also be able to find e-books online, sometimes free. For example, Google has a resource called "Google Books" where you can search the title of nearly any book and a scan of the book will be provided - thus called an e-book. You can even find very old book on Google books with contain appendices with original prime documents. I myself used this resource last year when doing my research project and found a scan of a book from 1815, and used some of it's content as prime sources. I would always suggest that you provide the URLs of where you found the sources online (including the http:// ... etc..). Maybe in the outline plan give the title of your source, it's author, publisher, date of publishing and then the URL of the source afterward.

Click below to see Google Books and the 1911 census of Ireland.
