Nope. It's slow though. Think my line might be covered in treacle.

    Morning

Eircom's been terrible for us recently. Have 3MB line and have just in the last few hours been told to downgrade my line to a 1MB.

Using Eircom's speedtest doohickey last night and this morning my results vary hugely. Yesterday from 1PM went from 1280Kbps to 172Kbps at its worst by 9PM. That's despite my router page showing a line speed of 1312kpbs!!

This morning router showing a line speed of 1248kbps and Eircom speedtest showing 1024kbps.

Could anyone here explain the logic of downgrading my line? Apart from leaving the country again (we've only recently moved home after almost 20 years away) it seems I have little option but to remain firmly planted in the dark ages since moving back here!!

If your line quality is bad , I assume your downstream attenuation is high since you are far from exchange or bad cabling. Having a profile that is set to high for the line to support can cause reliability problems. You are barely synching over 1mb speeds so having 3mb is waste of money.

Unless you can do something to improve your attenuation (remove fax machines/ skyboxes and any phones and check if your attenuation improves) I would recommend downgrading. It's a sh*tty solution but that's life. I mean what do you expect, it's Ireland!
