It's anazing, you read about this kind of thing all the time, but it doesn't really hit home until it happens to someone you've come across.

    Truly terrible, RIP

jesus!! this is terrible news he was only in Australia just over a month and this happens.

It happened in coogee sydney, correct me if im wrong but didn't something similar happen last year to another irish man in the same area of sydney??

    http://www.rte.ie/news/2009/1029/sydney.html

Coogee is notorious for vicious fights, was there myself in a beergarden and someone got badly glassed in front of about 100 people, this was during the day!
Another Irishman, David Keohane, was attacked in the same area of Coogee in August 2008.

Sad, shocking and so unfair. RIP Eirebhoy.

I’ve just posted this over on the Poker forum, but hopefully it’s ok to post it here too.

I was just looking at his YouTube profile .

One of the last videos that he added as one of his favourites was a month ago. It’s Go by Moby, & I just thought that maybe some people might want to take a couple of minutes to watch it & think of Gearóid & just wish him all the best in his final journey, & of course also to think of his family & friends & wish them strength at what is a devastating time for them.

Wow, I can't believe that...back in the day I used to post on the soccer forum fairly regularly and have to say I was always a big fan of his posts...he contributed a lot to the boards.ie community and was clearly a very well known, well respected, and well like part of tha family.

It's always absolutely tragic and so agonisingly frustrating to see a young life cut so short in such moments of needless madness.

Rest in peace and my thoughts are with his family and friends.

    Very very sad.

i never get the world today. I am not that old. I grew like most started drinking 17-18 if i got away with it. We went to pubs and take aways but fights were not that bad. Your biggest worry was a black eye because girls would not come near you with it.

Now your biggest worry is are you insured. More and more seem to be dying. Is this a problem with the drink culture? Is this a problem with the law and the crime and time not fitting. Its daft.

Just heard his sister talking to Newstalk while driving to work. He seemed to be a fantastic guy who was loved by all his family.

Additionally, his mother has said that she feels sorry for the other guy in the fight. Amazing woman to show such compassion and kindness at this horrible time.
