I bought a new laptop yesterday and got the latest Norton 360 software too. I asked for it to be set up in store. When I got home and started to use the laptop it seemed like Norton wasn't installed. I put the CD Rom in the CD drive and went throught the installation process, but could only get so far. I got a message saying an older version had been detected and was being removed. Then it said to restart the laptop to continue installation. I restarted and the very same thing happened again. I've tried several times since with no luck. Any ideas what might be causing this and how I can fix it?? Any help appreciated. Also I went into Control Panel and looked at the list of programmes and tried to uninstall Norton 360 and start from scratch manually but it didn't seem to uninstall properly.

The first thing you should do is run the Norton Removal Tool, it's a task in itself to remove this program.

    ftp://ftp.symantec.com/public/english_us_canada/removal_tools/Norton_Removal_Tool.exe

Secondly, I HUGELY suggest you don't use Norton whatsoever on your computer, it's guaranteed to slow it down with it's multiple processes in the background and you have to pay for this. There are a tonne of free, better and faster alternatives on the internet.

    AVG Free - http://free.avg.com/ww-en/homepage

    Avira - http://www.free-av.com/en/support/index.html

    Avast - http://www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-home.html

    Kaspersky - http://www.kaspersky.com/virusscanner

    Microsoft Security Essentials - http://www.microsoft.com/Security_Essentials/

This list goes on... see Google.

Thanks a million for your help. Used that link to uninstall and then reinstalled from scratch. If it slows things down big time I'll try one of the other ones you've mentioned instead. Thanks again. : )
