I don't know if its underated as it is pretty much unheard of; so if any of you like allman brothers meet Zappa psyche type trip then check out Viola crayola's breathing of statues

Thats pretty cool. How did you come acorss that?

Totally by chance, i was in a record shop in Leicester which specialises in krautrock, prog and other odd stuff called Ultima Thule, the owners Alan and Steve Freeman must be the worlds foremost experts on Krautrock and wrote Crack in the cosmic egg.

Anyway Alan had it on the player when I was there, and I instantly loved it.

I always thought some of these excellent albums were/are very underated and pretty much ignored.

Arcane Sun - Arcane Sun - Excelllent Irish Black/Doom metal
Arcturus - The Sham Mirrors - Very atmospheric and unusual metal
Nosferatu - Rise - Excellent - Old school goth rock from 1993
Elusive - The Great Silence - More old school goth rock in the vein of The Mission and some Fields
I - Between Two Worlds - A cross between Motorhead, Venom and Bathory
Within Temptation - Enter - Doomish gothic metal
Tiamat - Wildhoney - Very imaginative psychedelic death metal
Samael - Eternal - Industrial metal?
Amorphis - any album - One of the best metal bands in Finnland
Thin Lizzy - Bad Reputation/Black Rose - I much prefer these albums over Jailbreak and Johnny The Fox
Love Like Blood - An Irony of Fate - Old school goth rock like Fields, Sisters etc
To/Die/For - All Eternity/Epilogue - Like HIM, but way better and more memorable
NFD - Dead Pool Rising - Like Fields, without the msytic stuff, but still awesome

I Was Alive Then is class song. Arcane Sun are definitely underrated. The Sham Mirrors is a masterpiece - one of the best metal albums ever released

    Welcome
    this transmission
    from a fallen star

    Light has departed
    from this black sun
    But please put us on
    to bring darkness down
    from your head and home

    Our enterprise a success
    as return is no option
    our eyes were removed
    for our own safety

    The distance too great
for you to hear our cries
    nevermind take this lamp
    we are beyond light

    We learned so little
    of inhuman culture
    before disappearance
    went right through us

    The mothership
    boarded by fools
    we escape space
    in order to reach
    our destination

    And if you are listening
please tell us about the time
    where and when we exist
    no more

    For when you go
    we go with you
    via wormholes

Sodom - 'Til Death Do Us Unite

Excellent album, never really given any credit.

Not so much underrated album as underrated band, Clutch are a band that deserve a bit more recognition! Check them out. From their self-titled album to their latest, Strange Cousins from the West, they only have a handful of dud tracks between them.

Clutch are a great shout. Their most recent album. Strange Cousins From The West is excellent, but seems to be totally overlooked.

Aye, add it to the stack of quality albums they've released and the new songs are even better live!

That's what I like to hear! Spread the word!

I only found them this year too, back in April. Heard 'Immortal' off 'Pure Rock Fury' in the Hitman:Contracts game. I started with Pure Rock Fury and then worked backwards and then picked up their later albums over the last few months. So many cracking tunes.

They're in the UK and Europe at the moment but no Irish date so I went over to see them in London last Tuesday at Koko which was just deadly. Kylesa and a Swedish band called Kamchatka were supporting. Tickets were less than €20 incl. booking fees. Dirt cheap! Overall it cost less than €90 for flights, tickets and hostel.

    In flames
    Reroute to remain.

Great band but this is by far their best album. For some reason it tends to get overlooked.

no offence but load is a pretty terrible album. we all know that the only reason why it managed to sell so much is simply because its metallica. theres a difference between underrated and just bad. and load, along with reload and st anger are bad albums

Very very true. I haven't liked any of Metallica's albums since the 'Black Album' which was/is a great album even though it's quite commercial. Anyway here are some more very underated rock/metal albums:

I - Between Two Worlds - Old school blackend metal like Bathory/Motorhead and Venom minus blastbeats and lots of class guitars.

    Elusive
    - The Great Silence - Excellent goth rock likt The Mission UK.

    Legenda
    - Autumnal - Dark atmospheric finnish black/doom metal.

    Opened Paradise
    - Occult - Very old school goth rock in the vein of Fields of The Nephilim, Nosferatu and some garden of Delight.

    In The Woods...
    - Omnio - Really great atmospheric prog rock/metal.

    NFD
    - Dead Pool Rising - More old school goth rock.

    Within Temptation
    - Mother Earth - I think the newer albums get more attention than this truly class symphonic metal album.

    Tiamat
    - Wildhoney - Very very underated album that is very atmospheric, dark and very well crafted.

    To/Die/For
    - All Eternity - Much better than any album by H.I.M., and much more well though out. 'All Eternity and Epilogue' are awesome.

    Dawn
    - Slaughter Sun - More or less in same vein as Dissection, but almost just as good.

    Old Man's Child
    - Born of The Flickering - This is my personal favourite album by this band, and it is excellent melodic black metal, with a lot classically inspired guitars/riffs.

    Thin Lizzy
    - Black Rose - ''Jailbreak' seems to get the most praise, but I much prefer this album as it is just as good, and Gary Moore does a fantastic job on the guitar riifs and leads.

    Dispatched
    - Motherwar - Another swedish melodic death metal album that is a bit of a mixture of In Flames, Dissection and Dark Tranquility but still well worth checking out.

That's an awesome album. I still prefer 'Born of The Flickering' though, but 'The Pagan Prosperity' is still amazing. Have you listened to both 'Ill Natured Spiritual Invasion' and Revelation 666'? They are also well worth listening to as well.;)

I've never heard any Old Man's Child albums, but just listened to a few tracks from this on youtube, savage stuff. Going to try and pick that up.

You should pick that album up and 'Born of The Flickering' which was their excellent debut album.

Yeah you mentioned it in your previous post but I only saw that after I posted. I'll definitely have a look into it, cheers!
