Just got the same response from Pint on Punt. I'm going to drop into Charles Dickens in a while and I'll post then.

  • Registered Users Posts: 332 ✭✭dave_t

    Right,
I went into Bridie O'Reilly's and they said they've had a lot of interest and they've been pushing for upper management to open but they said they won't

PJ O'Briens said they won't be opening

Pugg Mahone's said they have had about 3 people before me in and if they more interest they will open. They took my number and said they'll let me know. They also took the other 3 people's numbers.

Charles Dickens said they will be open for it and said they'll be open all night so that's probably the best bet.

I'd say if everyone wants to go to Pugg Mahone's then give them a call or drop in otherwise I'll probably go to Charles Dickens. Post with any responses you get if you call Pugg Mahones.

Great work Dave_t. As a slight word of warning, Charles Dickens did tell me before (Cyrpus V Ireland ) that they will be staying open all night and that they will be showing the game via an internet stream. Unfortunately when I arrived there at 5:30am the place was in darkness so its good to have a fall back plan just in case.

I did watch Leinester V Munster in the Heineken Cup final last year though and the atmosphere was electric and the place was rocking. Touch wood they stick to their word this time.

I'll just have to go to the casino if they're not open I suppose although hopefully there'll be more interest in this one so people might go in there earlier. Also, i was thinking that, if I remember rightly, england v brazil is on at 5pm at home which would be 4am here so if they show that that would bring it to open until 6am so there might not be any point of them closing at that stage.

just off the phone to charles dickens and they aren't showing the game. Pugg Mahones said ring back at half 5 and they will know, he said if they have about 15 people then they will open, he is just waiting to see the demand today

  • Registered Users Posts: 332 ✭✭dave_t

Lucky you rang because the guy in there (Charles Dickens) yesterday said they'll definitely be showing it. I even specified it was on at 7am. Lets hope Pugg Mahones open so.

Charles Dickens are rubbish! Exact same thing as last time.

I just called Pugg Mahones to add my name to the list. They said they will know at 5 pm or so. They wont open up for a handful of people.

If anybody else wants to ring and add their support their number is 03 9670 2278

Just rang Puggs. They have about 18 on the list. If they get 30/40 they will open.

Hotel Barley in Kilda are definately showing it just rang them there.

I'll probably just go to St. Kilda so if I don't hear from Pugg Mahones. This is such a pain. Should've stayed in Sydney. There'll definitely be no problem seeing it there or even in Brisbane. I don't understand why it is so hard to find somewhere here.

im very sceptical of all places but Barkly Hotel is definately staying open. Doors are opening up at 7:00am but they do not have a licence to serve booze at that time.

  • Registered Users Posts: 332 ✭✭dave_t

I might just take a look around the CBD around 5.30 and if there's nowhere open then go to St. Kilda.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 29 toffeeforever

You will probably find a number of places opening up at 7 am for breakfast and that in the city at that time. Its just more to find a place with a good atmosphere. If you are trying the CBD stick your head in the casino. Always a few people in there

i was thinkin of opening up my little apartment but could only manage like 2/3 ppl max! doubt me housemates would agree to it tho.

I live right beside st kilda junction, so if enough boardsies are headin to barkly, i might head over too, down a few cans beforehand! :p

Will do. I'll be happy once there's a small bit of an atmosphere

Called the Charles Dickens...they're def not showing the match. I called a few places, and the only ones showing it is the Barkly in St Kilda. The catch is; no beer until 9am. Shockin' stuff altoghether, but hopefully we'll be celebrating by that stage.

    Roll on the Saturday all-nighter!

    Olé Olé Olé!

Wouldn't think so. Don't think they're showing it. I gonna take a walk up by there in morning in case as I'll be passing it although the word seems to be that they are not showing it.

Just off the phone to both the Charles Dickins and Puggs...

CD said if there are stll people there at 6 they'll stay open...

Puggs said they'll be "100%" open for it....they're reopening at 6/6.30 so prob will be in there waiting outside...

    things are looking good!

  • Registered Users Posts: 332 ✭✭dave_t

Yeah, should be good. I just hope enough people turn up there because they are opening especially.

I'd say so yeah...i presume people would try the Irish bars first if they wanted to see it....may even get a few Frenchies in there too

    will anywhere be serving drink?

was gonna watch this at home but now im thinkin i want some atmosphere to watch it in. theres a place on fitzroy st called Robartos or something. its across from IGA and the Melbourne Wine room. they're open til 7am serving booze, then around the corner theres the barkly which is showing it.

Wheres this puggs place? whereever we decide to go we need to organise an impromptu boards beers for it. i'll be there +1 anyway.
