The Essential Cinema season has been great at the IFI.

Bonnie and Clyde was completely booked out on Monday. They had to bring in more chairs from the bar to seat everyone. Bodes well for them showing more classics in future.

Looking forward to The Searchers on Monday now. I got tickets to all 4 films for just €26 too.

Went to see it in Coolock three weeks back and the projector went, had to wait twenty minutes so in a way is was exactly like seeing it in the 80's, interval and all :p

Totally forgot about Bonnie and Clyde :o

Went to the Fisher King though, great to see it on a bigish screen :):)

The Swan should be starting their classics soon also.

Hope they show the Top five from the Poll at least.

Isn't The Taking Of Pelham 123 part of their Wild Strawberries screenings? Are you allowed in if you're not over 55?

Thanks for the head's up on this.

They are only advertising this on their own site though as Entertainment.ie. BigScreen.ie or Movies.ie don't have it listed.

Screen Cinema do this also, royal pain.

Looks like Last Crusade will be Blanch next week so also.

    Cheers ..

Might pop down to that. Live near by.

My neck is super sore today, so I'll probably not make it in to see the Searchers in the IFI.

What's up with the poster? Were people conned that they were going to a colour movie? :p

BTW thanks a million for these weekly updates. As a lazy bastard I haven't gone to many of them, but it's good to know that there is more than the modern stuff playing around town.

The Swan in Rathmines should be starting them soon.

Although they have been saying that now for six months.

Quick question: Is there any classic films on this Friday and Saturday....and also next Friday and Sat(16th and 17th) ?

    Perferably during the daytime hours?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 17,689 ✭✭✭✭OutlawPete

Nothing confirmed as of yet ToniT.

The Psycho runs stops in the IFI on the 15th.

And there are four more Hitchcock movies starting on that Monday (19th) throughout the week, so your just unlucky with those two days :o

I'll PM you if anything comes up though :)

The Lighthouse may have something on, but they always seem to leave it to the last minute to confirm anything.

Damn! I'm not on Twitter! But if I was I would suggest JAWS and Halloween! Those two are the top of my list to see on the big screen...but if someone had a hankering to show some Carpenter how about Big Trouble in Little China too! And The Fog! Oh man the Fog would be the BEST!!!

    Never heard about that.

Remember the Final Cut coming out alright.
Had my copy ordered from amazon the first minute I could.

    I blame those damned replicants.

Yeah. It first screened at the film festival that year but then a month or so later it was in the cinemas for a good few weeks.

That said, I never got around to seeing it in the cinema then either. I actually have it on BluRay and still haven't got around to watching the Final Cut.

I still have to see it also, but I'm gonna go to the Lighthouse.

I only like Screen 1 in the IFI, Screen 2 is too small and cramped.

Yeah. Hoping to get to Psycho at some stage over the weekend too.

The Screen liked my suggestion of showing Duck Soup on twitter... A Marx Brothers film on the big screen would be amazing.

I'm not a fan of the IFI at all. Wouldn't take much to have that place out the door for every screening but because (AFAIK) its partially government funded they dont put any effort into it!

Never been to the lighthouse. Where is it?
