Yeah I got one last night, the trick is to apply just after midnight before the rush. Can't believe they went this fast though:eek:

Bah! I was defeated by the rubbish user interface. I logged on at 1am this morning and later after breakfast. I followed the "book tickets" link from http://entertainment.ie/event/Film/Meeting-House-Square/Raiders-of-the-Lost-Ark/2628058.htm only to see irrelevant duplication of content that was already published on the first page followed by a "browse for more tickets ?" message and a "Facebook Like" widget - both of which would normally appear at the end of a page.

Only after seeing yours and Skinfull's post did I figure out that I had to scroll "below the fold" (as viewed on a standard 15" laptop), past the misleading fluff to the actual "book tickets" link.

Back to UI, UX and/or UCD classes for Fusio!

Nope, the Billy Wilder classic with Jack Lemmon and Shirley McClaine.

Team America World Police, Top Gun and Point Break playing at the Light House for 4th of July. From their website:

    http://www.lighthousecinema.ie/newsarticle.php?sec=NEWS&_aid=1348
    AMERICA F*CK YEAH!

    America, F*ck Yeah!
Nobody makes more explosive, ass-kicking, blockbusting action movies than the folks over in Hollywood, U.S.A so in honour of the 4th of July we’ve put together a season of our favourite action spectaculars to enjoy throughout the week.
Tuesday 3rd July: TEAM AMERICA: WORLD POLICE
“Terrorist your game is through cause now you have to answer to America, F*ck YEAH!”

Get ready to sing along to Trey Parker and Matt Stone’s positively indecent action-comedy-musical-puppet show, Team America: World Police. There comes a point in your career when you’ve made fun of so many celebrities, races, institutions and phenomena that you just can’t really offend anyone anymore. But that doesn’t mean you should stop trying. Taking swipes at everyone they can think of from Kim Jong-Il to Matt Damon, this hilarious comedy features not only non-stop hilarity but also one of the catchiest musical soundtracks in years. Book Now
    Wednesday 4th July: TOP GUN
“Son, your ego is writing checks your body can't cash.”

Possibly the most American of all American films, Top Gun is all fighter jets, aviator sunglasses and male bonding! Dripping with adrenaline, Top Gun takes us along for a ride with the boldest and the bravest of the U.S. Air Force. Tom Cruise is all swagger and charm as Maverick, the hottest pilot in the business. Get ready for explosions, classic one-liners and power ballads aplenty! Book Now
    Thursday 5th July: POINT BREAK
    “It's 100 percent pure adrenaline.”

Surfing bank-robbers wearing American president masks being infiltrated by cocky young FBI agent Johnny Utah; well if that’s not the best premise for an action movie I’ve ever heard then I don’t know what is! Add to that the superb bromance between Keanu and Swayze, along with fantastic dialogue and one of the best on-foot chase scenes in cinema and you’re got yourself a damn fine movie. Don’t miss the opportunity to see Kathryn Bigelow’s classic 90’s blockbuster big and loud as it needs to be seen! Book Now
Season Pass to all 3 films, €20, only available at Box Office.

Nope, the Billy Wilder classic with Jack Lemmon and Shirley McClaine.

I caught this during the week. It's a great film which fully deserves all the awards it received.

I also found interesting from a historical perspective. e.g. I was surprised to discover that both TV dinners and TV remote controls (presumably wired) were available in 1960. I'd also forgot that manual telephone switchboards would still have been in use for private branch exchanges.

I had planned on seeing the Apartment yesterday, but it wasn't on :( Oh well, will have to stick with DVD.

A few events coming up some might be interested in.

There's a five film (Ringu, Donnie Darko, The Devil's Backbone, The Exorcist and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre) horror day on Friday the 13th in Galway as part of the Fleadh. I'll be down that neck of the woods so won't be passing up the opportunity to see Ringu on the big screen :)

Also, the Chester Beatty library is running a new film club, which is alas restricted to members of the library. They're showing the amazing double bill of Tokyo Story and Still Walking on July 21st, if you're a member or willing to pay the 50 euro membership for the year (a more reasonable 25 for students). It doesn't say what format, though, so it might just be a DVD.

For anyone who was at the triple screening of USA flicks in the lighthouse this week... how great was that?

Started off slow on a wet tue with only a 1/3 full screening of Team America, but that film can carry any audience, then we celebrated July 4th with the gayest straight movie ever! Great audience for that one... but then for point Break, when the sound was broken for the first 10 mins, and the audience filled in, complete with gun shots and airplanes landing, and not to mention the guys who handed out free ronald regan masks!!

    Brilliant! Loved it.

After a stressful week, that was an enjoyable Friday night. Though I was disappointed to discover that I'd missed out on a screening of Deliverance with John Boorman in attendance earlier this month. :(

So I heard tell that a bunch of staff from The Screen went to The Lighthouse, and that's part of the reason for them halting the classic screenings they used to have. Anyone hear this, or something else?
    I miss the classics :(

    Why would that stop them...?

I've wondered that myself, but was informed that the staff that left were teh group that instigated and followed through with the classic screenings. Again this is all hearsay so who knows... I'm just pining for more classics.
