oh and you will probably come to realise after a while that in the words of some random guy on 2p2 "playing poker for champagne money is a hell of a lot more fun than playing for grocery money"

My only advice would be to consider other networks.

50NL and 100NL are a lot tougher on iPoker than you might think. I recently moved and the 200NL at the new site isn't as aggressive as the 50NL on iPoker.
The aggression on iPoker will lead to higher variance too.... which is bad for you as you have a life roll of 3k.

Have a look around at some other options, pm me if you want info on my switch.

Is ipoker really that hard compared to other sites? I play most of my cash there and some on stars, I wouldnt say either are softer or harder tbh.

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,053 ✭✭✭jimbling

It's not like it's some other world or anything. But it's very very aggressive and high variance.

What levels do you play Suilen? I have heard that the 50NL and 100NL are much harder than the same levels on other sites. I have no idea about the higher limits though....there may be less of a difference when you go higher.

All I know is that I found it difficult. I put 50k hands in at 50Nl on ipoker in two months. I have only put in 500 hands on the newer site, but I am playing 100NL and the games are just soft by comparison. Lots of fish. Even the regs dont' seem to be overly aggressive.

I'm playing mid to high stakes lately but have played every level. Ya maybe the high RB deals have infested small stakes with some of the better mass multitabling regulars for those stakes.

    Good Luck

Make sure you fill some of the time outside of those eight hours with a social activity.

After reading the advice in this thread I have decided to take a different route at trying this

-deposit $3k on a different skin with legit RB(Could someone recommend a site? I was thinking of betfair 30% rb?)I realise it was kind of naive trying to get 50% when i'm not fully sure how legit the deal is.

-play 5 hours a day 7-days a week(maybe more some days, depending how good the games are) as i feel this is v.achieveable.

-Start at 50nl(I'm still going to try 6-tabling tho)

-move up to 100nl when I have 60 BI's(I'm not moving to 200nl whatever happens)

-Follow the 4 BI rule(if i'm down 4 BI's in any one day i quit for the day)

Could someone tell me what time would be the best 5 hours to play and recommend a good site with decent rb?

    Thanks for all the advice.

    Thanks for all the advice.

I think all the main sites have got relatively tough these days, so personally not sure which site would suit you best.

On the hours to play - obviously enough the evening time is best time to play as that's when you get bigger percentage of recreation players so I suppose from 7 to 12 pm. This for me is one(and just one) of the big drawbacks about playing poker for a living, as the most lucrative times are when regular peoples social times are happening.

This is a bit extreme but I'm actually fairly serious. If you want to play it for a living, maybe go to somewhere like New Zealand or West coast of Canada for 6 months. That way you could play the European recreational players in your day time and then have the evenings off to do whatever you want. It's worth I'd imagine at least an extra 1 or 2 BB/100 to play European evening times instead of daytime and could make such a move worth it imo.

I've dropped out of college until next year so most of my friends wont be around anyway. Moving abroad would mean paying for rent, food etc. I'm living at home again until the summer so i'm rent free. This is one of the reasons i'm trying this.

I dont live to far away from a casino. What do people think of maybe taking a few shots at live poker 200nl as well as the games are sooo soft?

I agree that live games are softer BUT... they are far slower and of course you can't multi-table :pac: and tips for dealers and all that sort of stuff affects the bankroll too.

Again I think if you are going to do this for a living you should pretty much stick to one format of play - games are tough these days so just get into a routine of playing the same game well. And that advice is most definitely of the variety do what I say rather than do as I do :p. anyway basically specialising is where it's at imo.

Get your in and around 50% on ipoker, there's enough reputable deals out there imo.

Also a 4 buy in stop loss for the day is retarded if your trying to grind a big amount of hands. You should drop 4 buyins warming up.

Do you think I csn find a legit 50% RB on ipoker?

I'd guess from 400nl and higher the difference across the networks is much of a muchness, but small stakes there's a huge difference. I used to play exclusively on iPoker, mainly 50nl, then moved sites and mainly play 100nl atm and the 100nl games are far softer than iPokers 50nl games.

Soft as live games are playing them with a 3k dollars roll is a good way to destructo. Games are not that great at that level on betfair imo.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,771 ✭✭✭TommyGunne

200NL is definitely softer on smaller sites anyway.

Live poker is pretty pointless with a 3k roll. That would be the height of silliness.

4bi stoplosses are crazy unless you tilt like mad. I go through 4bi downswings roughly every 5k hands anyway, so that will likely cut hugely into your playing time. Just work on tilt control instead.

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,854 ✭✭✭zuutroy

Yeah I think 400nl+ it doesnt really matter where you play, the standard is very similar (at least on Everest, Stars, ipoker and Ongame)
There's definitely better places to play SSNL though than ipoker. In fact ipoker is horrible.

I don't think you'll find enough liquidity or fish there during the day.

One other problem you're gonna face no matter how much advice you get is that which software you love or hate is so individual and playing on software that makes your eyes and/or brain hurt for hours on end is -EV

ps all these guys steering you away from ipoker are trying to keep the £ sterling tables for themselves ;)

I wish you the very best of luck, hope you win loads of the good stuff but remember to go back to college next year regardless.

It's impressive that you have listened to all the advice and made changes. Loads of players ask for advice and then ignore it for some reason.

I like these changes, except the stop loss which is meh (I don't hate it as much as others though, especially if tilt is an issue for you in which case it could be a good idea).

On hours to play, Euro morning and daytime are tough. So if having your evenings free isn't important to you, play in the evenings. Personally, I really love having my evenings free, so my winrate (or, loserate for October ffs) suffers. Depends how money v. freetime v. lifestyle works for you.

As for whether to iPoker or not, I am now thinking of looking elsewhere considering what others are saying here about iP v. the competition. I've noticed that it is also increasingly a theme on 2+2 that SS at iP are the toughest games nowadays, so maybe there are indeed better places to play.
