Really surprised by the lack of people posting up in the confirmation thread.

Ah its not too bad really. About 20 or so, so far have signed up (not including qualifiers). There was about 34 people all together in the Premiership/Championship, and about 4 or 5 players dropped out during the season?

What's the story with people who cant play their remaining games this week. Have been in contact with a few people and for whatever reason they havent been able to play our final games. Who gets the points?

For anyone who has games against me remaining and is able to play I'll be on for an hour from half 5 and then again after 9 for a couple of hours. Do your best to get on. Cheers.

OK. So I'll take the organisers silence as "You're not getting the points"

Sorry missed your post about that! Send a PM if you don't get a reply from one of us!!

Yeah, nobody gets the points if the game doesn't get played, we're looking at ways to get around this for next season!

Yeh I know sorry about that. My bendy arm was twisted into going for a pint. I had been trying to arrange a few games for Friday evening but you were the only one able to play. Add to that the fact that I was on every night last week and noone was about to play the games. You can have the points if the organisers will let ya. Sorry again

    Starting very shortly.

Just waiting on the last few people to let me know if they're coming back.

If I don't hear fromt them by Friday, they are out of the league.

We will start the team picks for the 3 seasons next week and get the new season started then.

Over your limit a bit too early?

lol we went over the limit with digiweb, so cancelled and joined UPC, Digiweb cancelled straight away and UPC wont be here till the 19th, i can keep and eye on the forum at work and i might get one of those Vodafone 3g usb modems, not sure if there any good for gaming though!

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,320 ✭✭✭v3ttel

I'm with Digiweb now alright (UPC wasn't available:( ), they really are strict bastards about the limit (I've had others that you could use an extra GB or two and they didn't mind). I had Digiweb a year or two ago, I'd swear they are just watching for you to go 1Kb over so they can nail ya!

I just checked it was actually 179gb, its cause i was at work during the day and i went and downloaded a load of old tv series. So yeah it was pretty much day and night. But the point is that eircom don't seem to mind one bit which is nice.

Ive seen threads before on the broadband thread where people got letters about their download amounts from Eircom saying if it isnt reduced to under the limit from then on they will be charged so much per gb they are over. Nice of them to send a letter to warn you first tho :D

yeah true but i have broken my limit pretty much every month for 4 years and no sign of a letter yet. I think they don't bother anymore cause they want to keep there customers.

Haha well after 4 years heres hoping they dont, the own all the phone lines anyways so make plenty of money off the line rentals no matter what company you use. You would think after 4 years you would have run out of "old shows" to download.... porn *cough*

    People Quitting Mid Season
Due to various reasons we have players who sometimes are unable to complete the league season. In the case of these players any remaining fixtures they have will be awarded a walkover to their opponent. Any games played previously will stand as at this stage the person was still active in the league.

As we are in preseason I thought that I would bring this up. To be honest this rule is a little outdated. If a person plays half a season and gets a couple of wins and then starts to get hammered he is more likely to lose motivation and quit. If you start handing out wins for nothing then thats unfair on ANYONE who lost points (either through a draw or loss) previously. In my opinion the fairest way would be to void ALL match results for the season. I presume that now would be the best time to address rule changes ???(to increase fairness and parity)

No need to start a new thread and clog up the forum! All FIFA league questions should be posted in this thread!

With regards the above, if any professional league team can't or doesn't field a team a walkover would be awarded. I don't see why it should be different for us!

We don't want people to quit, the league is set up to build players up to play their games over the season, with this, people who come up from the qualifers aren't used to playing this format and get fed up and quit or don't bother playing games (nothing we can do about this), we're looking to have people who want to play and are reliable. Hense anyone who quits gets kicked from the league isn't allowed back.

6 of the 7 people who quit last season came up from the qualifiers in the last two seasons.

This rule has always been in place and will not be changing this season.

    Thanks for your query

Its debatable which is more fair (you want to void peoples hard earned wins - doesn't sound particularly fair either, to be honest). I don't think your solution is any fairer than what we have at the moment.

The ideal scenario as I see it, would be to replace the dropped out player with someone reliable from the qualifying league with the same skill level. If thats not possible at the time, stick with the existing rule.

you could argue that if a team pulls out of a league, all results and fixtures are null and void. remember when Cork City were on the verge of being wound up by court order, it seemed as though their last game would be against Sligo(i think) and many argued why bother because if Cork City were wound up at that stage, sligo would benefit no matter what the result. the 3-0 walkover applies when a team cant field/travel/etc but still remain in the league.

i think a lot of the reason I got angry earlier in season 5 was the fact that Richie would only have to win a few games to stay up because with the 3-0 rule in place while other lads were playing every week. he had something like a 12 point head start already without trying. Now, that didnt happen because Richie was sound in not trying and had genuine internet problems but it does open up an opportunity for someone to make up excuses and hope to reap the benefits later in walkovers if one was so inclined.

That said, the new rule for holidays and the half season "review" of sorts will cut a lot of this out so fair play lads.

  • Moderators, Business & Finance Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 10,462 Mod ✭✭✭✭Axwell

The new rule about reviewing throughout the season will cut that out as the player not playing games would get penalised for doing so. Also if we see someone not playing a large amount of their games like in your scenario then we will be contacting them asking them why they havent played and take further action if necessary.

Would someone really be devious enough to hold off on playing games in the slim hope, or off-chance that one of the guys they still have to play drops out?

I think your just reading a bit too much into it man. In 5 seasons its only happened once that someone could seriously benefit from it, and that didn't happen.
