    Hi,

Was wondering if somebody could point me in the right direction...

    I've got a few questions.

Am I eligible for a grant if I do my masters in England?

And is it simply a matter of approaching my local authority or are there other avenues?

    Thanks. :)

Check for research centres in the area that you plan on going to, and see if they offer funding for researching in an area of their choosing.

  • I don't know what you're studying but generally, Masters funding in England is very, very difficult to secure, particularly for Humanities subjects. I had to jump through a million hoops to get mine, and I still wasn't nominated for funding until a year after I applied, so I couldn't take up my place in 2008 like I wanted. Also, if you're not a British citizen like me, you only get your fees paid with no maintenance grant.

The local authority/VEC grants don't go beyond the 32 counties at Masters level. Your best bet is specialised funding from either the university you're applying to or the various research sponsorship bodies.
