Dammit! I had a really long post just typed out but lost it. I paced the Dublin Half marathon Yesterday with RQ. The Goal was 1:59:30 and came in at 1:59:22. Really pleased with that, it was a great experience- very rewarding. Met loads of nice people and had a blast doing the Job. I really hope to do it again and recommend it to anyone who gets the chance.

The run up to the park was 4 miles so 17.2 total for the day

Today: 5 mile recovery run @9:30 pace. The recovery was more from the drinking in Ryans after the race than any running I had done :pac:
We must have been in the bar for nearly 12 hours  Great fun was had by all. I think I may have made a bet with Sarsfield rock that I'll go sub 6hours in the conemarra ultra. Hopefully he was too drunk to remember :p

Weekly total: 5 days running 51.6 miles

That was 100 euro at 2/1 that you break it. There were witnesses you know, the bet stands. I wanted the same bet off him, think i made 3 or 4 prop bets on boarsies performances in races over the next few months :P.

Yep I know!! I can't refuse 2-1 especially when it was my secret goal already.

You still on for that run on thursday evening?

That's the one. It'll be the toughest run of my programme so I'll be glad of the company.

Some dude randomly bought him a drink shortly after we got to the second pub, then they walked off together after we all left. What happened after that, only Xebec knows...

No I didn't get too drunk to not remember it.
I will uphold the bet if you want but will also let you rescind it also if you want. There was drink taken on both our parts (putting it mildly) but it is a sub 6 hour in the Conn Ultra next year yeah?

No, I'll take the bet. Nothing like a bet to keep me motivated.
As Brian says there were witnesses and all. Sub 6 in April here I come (or die trying).

By the way You're a bad man! You never let Oisin11178 in on the joke you played on him! He is still convinced the barman was really gonna throw him out :D
Funniest moment of the night I have to say!

Now that i think about it stephens boyfriends friends were being suspiciously nice to me in the pub, did he take us to a gay bar after we left Ryans? :D Talk about hijacking a thread.

Lads where did youse all go after Ryans the other night, The George?

Anyway let's get this thread back on topic.....

    Tonight P&D said 8 miles with 5 x 600m @ 5k pace.

My Plan was 8 with 4 @LT pace.

Was feeling awful from the get go tonight, even in the 2 mile warm up, and frankly I wasn't looking forward to 4 fast miles in a row. I launched into it anyway. The First went by in 7:05 (160) and the second (slightly uphill) in 7:14 (167) was really feeling it already and my form was all over the shop (the stride was short, shoulders tense and breathing erratic), after half a mile of the 3rd mile (looking back I was going at about 7:05 pace and 168 HR) I gave in and slowed down. I was feeling pretty disgusted with myself for being such a nancy boy. So after another couple of easy miles I decided to give the last mile a lash, but concentrate purely on lengthening my stride, keeping the shoulders relaxed and good breathing. I never looked at my watch until it bleeped but I really felt good the whole way this time. My stride was very long and I didn't feel I was turning my legs over as fast as before and was feeling really relaxed. Surprisingly when the garmin Bleeped it said 6:39- my fastest ever training mile. The Av HR was just 161 for that fast mile, so there was definately much more there.

I feel good that I managed to turn around a bad training session and felt really positive at the end. Even better news is that despte the pace of the last mile the groin gave me no hassle whatsoever. I have been doing a lot of strengthening work on it the last week so hopefully it is paying dividends.

8 Miles 7:59 av pace. 151 Av HR

Well, I think I know why I was feeling so lethargic yesterday. I woke up this morning with a throat like Gravel and have been wheezing and sneezing all day.

I had planned 11 tonight but settled just to do this weeks recovery run instead. I might not be up to much at all tomorrow. But better to get this cold out of the way now than in a month.

    4.3 miles @ 9:00 pace. HR 137.

I did about 7 strides as well which all felt fine. I hadn't been able to do any for the last fortnight due to the groin, so it is definately much better.

70/30 in favour at the moment, depends if the cold clears up and the groin holds up. I have a tough workout on thursday night and I'll see how I come through that.

What are you shooting for yourself?
