upgrading my graphics card

    hi everybody

    im not a wizz at pcs, but ii will ask anyway.
    i want to upgrade my graphics card
    i own a Packard Bell iMAX
    Intel Core 2 Duo Quad Q6600 Processor
    (2.44GHz, 1066MHz FSB, 8MB Cache)
    Windows Vista (R) Home Premium
    2GB Memory
    250GB Hard Drive
    256MB nVidia GeForce 8400 Graphics

    what graphics card would work well with this pc? i would like to stay with
    nVidia. have 400e to spend;)

    for that much i'd get a middie with a good PSU that you can carry over to your next build. A good PSU is meant to last what - Donkeys years?

    If I remember,these case arent that big.High end cards will be 10'' + in length so make sure your case can fit a decent sized card.

    Is the 6800 a PCI-E card ?

    What type of games do you play and what resolution

    Anyway,that PSU will turn to crap after you upgrade your graphics so I would recommend an upgraded PSU,550-600 Watt minimum for a high end card

    Now you also have the problem of manufacturers using non-reference size PSU's.Not all do,but its something to beware of when your picking a replacement.

    Right,my recommendations.If you need a new card RIGHT now then a GTX275 is good value with the new cards coming out the start of next month.The afformentioned cards are worth waiting for if you want DX11,40nm and a cooler name (lol).As for the PSU,I'll recommend a TX/HX 650 from Corsair.Very solid PSU.Great efficency and high quality construction (backed up by a 7 year warranty),about th only thing it wont do is run 2 high end cards in SLI/Crossfire (but will run mid spec cards in SLI/CF no problem)

    I'll recommend the GTX 275 from EVGA simply because of their warranty (Double lifetime,IIRC,which helps resale value).If you dont really care about the warranty then Asus do a great value card.
