If Green Day are officially confirmed for Slane (which they have expressed interest in several times) they will sell out.. eventually!! What will ensure they sell out will be the support acts. They had Kaiser Chiefs and Franz Ferdinand on their recent US tour

Unlike Blink 182 they have gained new fans and respect in the past 6yrs and they have become even more successfull.. Blink are the same ol skater dudes making fart jokes and staying in their comfort zones.

I know Weezer supported Blink 182 in the states over the summer so would be great to see them supporting Green Day at Slane.

Jimmy Eat World would be an incredible support act to see at Slane.

All in All I would put money on Green Day doing Slane, Blink 182 maybe at a festival or 02 (Mark Hoppus has already advised they are looking into doing a UK festival in 2010)

PJ who i love wouldn't sell out slane, maybe in 1995 no chance these days, metallica have played here every year for the last 6, maybe pearl jam and metallica together :)

Well they got to number 2 in the charts a month or two ago and their last Irish Point gig was the fastest selling gig in Irish history at the time, (might still be AFAIK). I can easily imagine Pearl Jam selling out Slane's 70,000 with naturally two other big bands ala RHCP, QOTSA & Foo Fighters a few back.
Sure they headlined Loolapalooza & the Reading & Leeds festivals in the past couple of years. Much bigger than Slane.

I've heard exciting rumours that the headline act will be none other than Chas and Dave on their eagerly anticipated reunion tour

Much prefer to see Ac/DC in marley park. Thats a crackin spot!! Slane has just too many people for me. Marley park is great for a gig. Seen the Who there in 07 and it was fantastic, set up was much better than I thought!!

They were class last year , i think it could happen since they are playing download in June so maybe Slane might be moved to June this year if they play

It honestly was nothing as bad as people made it out to be. Moany Joe Duffy listeners.

Balls to that, went to it last year, it was horrible, il never do slane again unless its Springsteen, he'd be the only one worth going through all that again to see. Although there's alot of talk of him doing Glastonbury again,
Defo do that over green day or oxygen!

To be honest Ciaran I'm not mad about any of the outdoor venues here, for different reasons, but Punchestown, Marley and Slane are so badly organised it ruins your day/night out........
I've been to loads of gigs at Marley and it doesn't matter what mode of transport you use it's a pain.......

If Ac/Dc were to do an outdoor gig here next year, which I doubt to be honest, I wouldn't see it being as small as Marley.......
Odd that Green Day had been so heavily associated with Slane next year and now they are in Marley - maybe there is no Slane next year.....either way I really couldn't be bothered with all of the hassle of that place........just hoping that no more gigs I want to hit are announced this side of Christmas...

My guess is that tickets weren't selling for the Slane gig......?

Yeah you're right with Marley being a bit small. I've been to 3 outdoor gigs, Nick Cave in Dublin Castle, I wouldn't reccomend going there at all. There was no screens! From the halfway point back if you wern't very tall you couldn't see a thing, Nick played a great set, No faults with Nick just a horrible place, I got a taxi there and back so that was hangy. I seen The Who in Marley park which I thought was great. We drpve out and got parking about 2/3 minutes from the gate, there was no hassle getting out at all. I got a really good spot, about 7 rows back with Pete right in front of me. I wouldn't have anything bad to say about Band or venue, except for the woman on somebodys shoulders whos high heel boot got me right in the face, but that could happen anywhere. My 3rd outdoor gig was in the RDS, It was Bruce Springsteen, night 1. I enjoyed that so much. I just missed out on a pit pass so I wasat the barrier for the pit. Except for the rain it was great. Got a dart there and back and it was grand. Somepeople further back had trounle seeing because they did the screens funny. They had the top half on for half the gig and the bottom half for the rest. Here is what they look like; You can see the tall top and wide bottom.

I would go back to the RDS if I got there early, I would definatly go back to Marley. I would only go back to Dublin Castle if I got there very early or they had screens.

    AC/DC
    Guns 'N' Roses
    Chickenfoot
    Them crooked vultures
Now if that was the line up I might just go.:)

Yeah Springsteen was awesome, anyone performer that can make you feel that good in weather like that is top drawer...........screens were **** though, setup didn't make any sense, having said that moved back towards the back after about 5-6 songs and had a terrific view....

good to have a number of possible rumours for Slane this early - and we don't even know if it's happening yet :-)

Rednik - has actually mentioned the band that I think are a big possibility - Guns 'n' Roses - not on their own, don't think they'd have the pulling power now on their own - unless of course it was a reunion of the original lineup - that would sell Slane in a heartbeat....

A lot of big bands are announcing their Euro Tours now.....but there's still stuff to come.....Ac/Dc - GnR and a couple of others might just persuade me to head there.....

The Stereophonics are touring the UK in March and haven't announced any Irish gigs yet. I think it is likely they will appear at Slane or Oxegen this year.

For demographic reasons (dragging out cash-rich over-30s) I imagine a lot of money will be offered to the Stone Roses ...

Stereophonics wouldnt be able to sell out Slane since they are not as big as they were when they played slane last time. If Stone Roses play i shall not be going

Phonics aren't playing Slane. They have 2 big gigs up their sleeve. One in Wales and one in Ireland.

First there was the dream, now there is reality. Here in the untainted cradle of the heavens will be created a new super race, a race of perfect physical specimens. You have been selected as its progenitors. Like gods, your offspring will return to Earth and shape it in their image. You have all served in public capacties in my terrestrial empire. Your seed, like yourselves, will pay deference to the ultimate dynasty which I alone have created. From their first day on Earth they will be able to look up and know that there is law and order in the heavens.
