Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

White deposits on concrete blocks

    I had a delivery of 4 inch concrete blocks to site. The ends of the blocks on a couple of the bales are white. Some bales are worse than others. Looks like calcification that you'd see on stone.

    Does anyone know what causes this and if I should tell the supplier to take them back?

    I assume that the efflorescense will still occur when the walls are plastered and as such will emanate through the plaster itself? I don't need the hassle!!!

    Not sure TBH
    I had it on my front wall alright, put after the plastering went on, havent seen it bleed out thru, plastering done 2 years ago.
    i think its a natural occuring thing, so dont be surprised if your new blocks will have it too. you might want to check all this before you go sending the blocks back. if you know a blockie, give him a ring. the blocks cud be ok to use., they were for me anyway

    I doubt they would take them back to be honest. I dont think there is anything wrong with them. Certainly, just around this time of year you will get a white staining on blockwork when built. Ive never taken any notice as to whether its on them in the bale though. Ive never seen it to be a problem when plastered anyway.

    I would be more worried about having proper strength blocks. There are some crap blocks out there that really shouldnt be used for a dog house. You should buy block based on recommendation of your engineer or experienced blocklayer. The cheapest is certainly not the way to go here.

    Blocks are from a reputable supplier and they have been good quality so far.

    It is my opinion that the price of blocks/concrete in Galway has been set by the various Galway suppliers. There is no/very little price difference between any of them. However you do see price variations in other parts of the country.
