Raised bed & poly tunnel

Hi all, Totally new to gardening but keen to get sowing for a nice spring crop. I was considering making a raised bed and covering it with a poly tunnel type structure. I was hoping to grow herbs - some lettuce - maybe carrots and a bit of garlic. Would this be suitable ? Thanks Rob
