    Tuesday 14th December
4.5 miles this morning before work. Was half asleep for most of it but delighted I got out as had plans for the evening.

    Wedesday 15th December
    40min tempo run
Didn't get out in the end. My bed won.

    Thursday 16th December
40 min tempo run on the treadmill in the gym.
Upper and lower body strength training

I really don't like running on the treadmill but figured if I ran on the road I'd never make it to the gym and if I went straight to the gym I'd never go running once I got home. So at least they both got done. Need to do my 5miler before work tomorrow. It will be a major miracle if I get up to run before work twice in the one week...but miracles can happen (with a bit of positive thinking :))

    Friday 17th December
Second Christmas party this week, no drinking for me. Left around 6pm and headed out for a run when I got home. 5miles planned. Started snowing after about a mile. Wow it got cold. Really beautiful but very cold. Lots of cars getting stuck. 10miles planned for tomorrow...should be interesting...!
5miles 9.41/mi (got progressively slower as the snow got heavier)

    Saturday 18th December
10miles planned, but wasn't sure how far I'd get after more snow falling last night. First few miles were ok but got progressively icier as I went on. Decided to call it a day at 5.75miles as the last bit was treacherous and I decided I didn't fancy a broken ankle just to get in a few more miles. Cork is a bit of a disaster today. Third Christmas party of the week tonight and I'm definitely having a drink! Day off tomorrow.
    5.75 miles
    18.75 miles for the week
    1 spin session
    2 weights sessions

Bad week so far. Weather in Cork is crap!! Bloody ice won't melt. Had planned to go the gym last night but talk of freezing fog and more snow seriously put me off. But I couldn't leave it any longer tonight. Seriously scary hill up to the gym but it was gritted.
    5 miles on the treadmill
    weights session
Travelling tomorrow and out tomorrow night so debating whether a pre-work gym session might be required...

    Friday 24th December
5 handy hungover miles. Pretty cold out there but amazing scenery. It's so white and no ice unlike Cork plus the roads were lovely and quiet.

    Saturday 25th December
4.5miles - annual Christmas run in Limerick. Ran with an old friend and it really made me push myself a bit. I definitely need to run with people a bit more I think. Freezing cold, fingers and toes numb for the first two miles but the hills warmed us up. Fantastic way to start the day. Hoping to do 10 tomorrow.

    Sunday 26th December
    10.28 miles
    9.58/mi pace
    Physio exercises, foam roller
No snow, ice or freezing fog today. Much milder but fairly wet and windy...and grey...not sure which I prefer.

    24.78miles this week
    1 weights session

    Tuesday 28th December
    5 miles 9.33/mi pace
Stomach not feeling the best, most likely due to the over-indulgence of the past few days.

  • Registered Users Posts: 960 ✭✭✭Blueskye

Stomach still dodgy yesterday but SHOULD have gone for a run anyway.

    Thursday 30th December
Hill sprint session - 4.8 miles
    1+mile warm up
6 hill sprints - about 2 mins each and then jog back down
    between 8.12 and 7.22/mi pace
    1+mile cool down
How can the temperature change so much, flippin roasting out there today...had to put down the hat and jacket. Positively humid!
Felt my knee a bit today, really need to be doing more rehab/cycling etc. Next week I'll get back in the gym once I get home.

    Friday 31st December
Last run of the year and it was a good one :-) 5 miles 9.06/mi which felt really comfortable (usually 9.30/mi is my comfortable pace of late) so really happy with that. Buzzing from good news in the family too so that's exciting. Our first grandchild will hopefully arrive in approx 7.5 months time.
Now off to celebrate the end of the year.
988.79 miles this year. Would have liked it to be a lot more. The plan for 2011 is consistency and increased mileage, more intervals and more races. Bring it on :D

    11 miles at 10.01/mi pace - 1hr 50
Found this really tough today, same route as last weekend but seemed way harder. I guess the week's socialising has taken its toll. Not enough sleep, too many late nights and quite a lot of alcohol has to catch up with you eventually. My thighs were really stiff and never really loosened up, which I think is down to wearing highheels most nights the past week, which I don't usually do. And my knee was a bit stiff too. But it's done.
    Physio work
    Foam roller

    25.8 miles this week

I'm not doing too well with my consistency goal so far this year...:o had to dash home after work yesterday instead of heading to the gym as planned and then once I got home I was so exhausted I just sat. Was asleep at 9pm:eek:. All those late nights seem to have caught up with me. Will run Friday to make up for it.
    5 miles at 9.13/mi pace
    Really needed that run tonight.

    10.21 miles at 9.59/mi pace
Supposed to do 12 today but my heart wasn't in it after about 7miles. Could really feel the speed session and gym work in my legs from Thursday. Freezing cold, hailstones, ice, snow, slush, rain and the odd bit of sunshine so decided to call it at day at 10. Glad to be home and warm.

    Saturday 15th January
13.1 miles Waterford Half Marathon - 2 hrs 44 seconds. What a day, wind and rain and very little sleep Friday night made for an interesting run. The pacers were brilliant (I did finish well ahead of the 2 hour pacers which was a bit weird given the time I got....). It was much tougher than I expected. But first race of the year, a pb by nearly 6 mins so got to be happy with that.

Planned a recovery run Sunday but a pub crawl in Cork Saturday night meant a very ill Blueskye yesterday.

    Monday 17th January
Hardcore spinning class - 1 hour. That'll wake you up!

    Tuesday 18th January 2011

Brilliant run tonight. Just felt like I could have kept on going...unfortunately a dodgy tummy meant a short cut home. Note to self, no chocolate 30 mins before a run :o
Knee a bit iffy so need to get cracking with the physio work.

    physio stretches
    core work
    foam roller

Yoga class this morning. First one on a very long time. Really tough but brilliant for balance, stretching and core work. Hope to keep this up on Sat mornings.

Long run planned for Sunday....well after getting very lost during a hike in the forest...2.5 hours later...I won't blame anyone in particular (cough cough, men and directions...!!) there just wasn't time.

    Monday 24th January
    5.49 miles at 9.11/mi pace
Really needed that run tonight. Had planned to go spinning but got stuck in work. Hope to make a spin class tomorrow evening.
    Stretching.

Trianing seems to be going well. Whens the next race?

I wouldn't say that, mileage is quite low and have missed a few run here and there but getting a good bit of cross training in which seems to be benefiting me. Ballycotton 10 in March and Connemara Half in April. Also a couple of 10k's - one next month and one in March. Going to keep the distances short til prep starts for DCM.

Spinning class tonight. Had planned on doing weights afterwards but was just too hungry to hang around. Maybe tomorrow if I can get out of work at a reasonable hour...

Last week was crazy work-wise, I've taken way too much on.
Been snowboarding the past week so no running. Great fun but really hurt my ass falling and it hasn't quite recovered but it's definitely on the mend.
5 easy miles today, felt great just to get out and run. Still some pain, particularly after stopping to change music but am sure it'll be grand by end of next week.

3.5 miles on treadmill as lashing rain outside.
    strength training

  • Registered Users Posts: 960 ✭✭✭Blueskye

5 miles at 9.36/mi pace. Really needed that run tonight after a headache-inducing day at work. Lovely run but my ass is in agony still and a twinge in my right knee (the good one!) which is from snowboarding. Looking forward to the body recovering properly.
    Core work
Physio work for dodgy left knee!
    Foam roller
