Wireless router not connecting to the internet

I have a netgear wgr614v9 wireless router with BBnet internet and this set up has worked perfectly for the last 6 months or so. I have one pc connected via an ethernet cable & a laptop connected wirelessly.

My problem started a couple of weeks back - I suddenly couldn't connect to the internet from either computer, so I disconnected the wireless router and I was able to connect to the internet perfectly, so the problem is not my internet signal. I have since been trying to follow up with Netgear to try and get an answer from them to see if the problem is the router & I did get a solution......but it's not satisfactory. I can connect to the internet for 5-10 mins if I'm lucky using the router and the response times are dire!!!

So I guess I'm hoping someone here can suggest something else??? I'm not a very techie person but I know the basics. Having been through the FAQ's on the sticky here - it basically confirmed what I already suspected - the problem is between the wireless router and the internet. Should I just give up and buy a new router? If so, can anyone recommend one? My internet comes in via an Ethernet cable. I'm not really sure I fancy shelling out on another netgear one if the lifespan is only 6 months.
