Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

3.5 Disk Restarts PC

I have a very unusual issue & I think it's the kind of problem that only someone who's encountered it & solved it will have the answer.

A PC (XP Pro) with a 3.5" floppy drive (needed to backup some kind of accounts software) & everytime a floppy disk is inserted in the drive the PC restarts.

It doesn't matter what disc, it happens with any & every disk I try.

I replaced the drive & cables with no effect & the originals work fine in another machine.

The power supply +5v rail is fine too (changed it just to see).

I even tried a USB external 3.5" drive and god damn it, every time I insert a disk into that it restarts the PC.

I'm thinking it might be Antivirus software related (AVAST) but can't seem to pinpoint the cause.

Anyone ever come across this & know how to solve it?

Freaky. This isnt some weird A:\ issue is it?

Check Device Manager for rogue drivers. Make sure anything relevant is updated. Your BIOS may also need a new driver/Flash.

Turn off automatic restart (Right click my computer > properties > advanced > Start up and recovery settings > untick auto restart)

Take note of the error you get when your machine blue screens

I googled it quickly there, two guys i saw had the same problem as you last month, one fixed it by updating his anti virus software, another by doing a system restore.

Eventually found what was causing the problem.

It was a setting in the Resident Shield section of AVAST, for floppy boot sector scan.

Once I disabled it the problem ceased :D
