Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

AutoPlay in vista

This is a techie question rather than a silly one (I hope).

In Vista, the AutoPlay settings are different from XP. In XP, each volume device (ie: drive C:,D: etc) has a tab on the properties dialog for that device allowing you to set AutoPlay associations.

In Vista, the settings are in Control Panel / Hardware and Sound / AutoPlay. In there there's a tick box, "Use AutoPlay for all media and devices".

My question is what does that tick box do? Apart from the staggeringly obvious I mean. Does it disable AutoPlay and AutoRun, indicating that the "Turn off Autoplay" policy in -- Administrative Templates / Windows Components / AutoPlay Policies -- is being set?

This policy will affect the NoDriveTypeAutoRun registry setting, probably in HKLM, which is the traditional way to nobble AutoRun.

Or does it do something mysterious and internal, like setting all AutoPlay associations to "Take no action"....

I'd find out myself obviously, but I don't have Vista (yay!). And it looks the same in Windows 7.

In the past, I held down SHIFT to prevent the AutoPlay dialog box from appearing. Why doesn't that work now?

Holding down the SHIFT key opens the AutoPlay dialog box regardless of the default setting. To prevent the AutoPlay dialog box from appearing for a specific storage type (such as a disc or device), follow these steps:

    1.

Open AutoPlay by clicking the Start button, clicking Control Panel, clicking Hardware and Sound, and then clicking AutoPlay.
    2.

Select Take no action next to that storage type.
