Boo Ankermann to the ends of the Earth...

They tend to do shoddy craftsmanship, don't necessarily ship the parts that they claim to be in the pc and finally use the oldest of the old, the cheapest of the cheap hardware. Unstable + likely to break unfortunately!

In other words, DIY costs a fraction more but is 100% better. :)

Are you on the right thread?

All the Ankermann builds seem like great value at a glance

To a certain degree they are but at this end of the spectrum, DIYs usually end up more expensive or not much cheaper at all.

I thought the pc might be a bit low end alright but just seen it on an email.

What about the monitor? Is that good value?

Agreed there but if your not up to building your own pc go for a tried and trusted brand, Dell, HP, Acer or keep it simple and buy a bloody Mac..

It's nothing of a major bargain!
Only vga and not full hd...

Are you looking for a new pc and monitor or something?

Ha Ha. i'm toying with the idea of building a new one. The GF's pc is a bit old now and I thought that might replace hers.

If I upgrade now i'll get a new monitor in the new year or else I'll get a new monitor and wait until the new year to build.

Supposing your gf just wants to go an bebo and tagged (if you're lucky) lol

then unfortunately a bottom of the range Dell does be the smarter buy

I tried updating her current pc's RAM and her pc was quicker but the RAM kept failing. I'm going to order new RAM from crucial and if that doesn't work she'll just have to get by on 256MB of RAM for the time being.

    *death gasp* :P

Hardwareversand.de will build you a custom PC. You can use their online system builder to choose compatible parts and then pay a little extra to have them put it all together for you. I know two people who have done this with them and they are more than pleased. It'll be cheaper than Dell's offerings, and Dell and other brands will often use skimmed down OEM parts (namely the motherboard), which are not as useful when it comes to upgrading.

    I wouldn't think that's a great Spec or price?

I know too that everyone will probably bash this but I've used them & a few of there office model offerings & aside from a loud fan they've been great.

One from them is still in use here & it's 3 years old without ever giving any grief.

Your gf will prefer form over function.. on that website check out the new mini PC's from Acer etc.. some of them look amazing

then go to the bargain alerts forum on this site
You can get one of those from ebayer.com for less than 200 euro delivered, it will do her fine and she'll love the look of it
