Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Its hard to see it all together as the imahe is so large but I would like to see the cig in focus as opposed to the lighter. maybe resize the image down so the full image can be seen on screen for more c&c

does nothing at all for me

I think the lighter has such good detail you are actually losing the interest of the photo by having it out of focus.
I think you should try get the whole lighter in focus.

Cig could be lost or kept but does nothing for me in the photo.

No mood to it, too much white and cig itself should be in focus

Quite unbalanced as a composition, too much dead space in the left and bottom, which doesn't work. Selective focus is too selective and the lighting is very flat and tungsteny. As for the subject matter, it's completely meh to be honest.

The selective focus and narrow DoF would work very well on a brighter, more interesting subject with a different background.

Doesn't work for me either. I can see you were trying to use an interesting DOF to possibly achieve interestingness, but it somewhat distorts the photo. And the left and bottom (mainly left) is completely blown out which doesn't work either.

Because I don't get it, I need to ask: What were you trying to achieve out of the photo here? i.e. what is it supposed to say/mean.

One more thing, when I full screen it I still can't see the whole photo, if you keep it to 800px on the longest side it would be easier to see the whole photo, and judge it in full context, rather than scrolling.

Erm sorry no big artistic meaning behind it, was testing autofocus points and apatures at different ISO's handheld, just testing a lens, put my cig down and snapped it.
I totally agree its a meaningless eyesore, just sometimes I'm amused with the psychological photographers around the net, trying to take meaning from cr@p.
I've 20 years photo experience, I don't really post photo's online, but I've seen some long discussions about bin worthy pics portrayed as art.

Fair point! I suppose it goes to prove you can't pass off any old cr@p as art either :D

To be brutally honest, I couldn't disagree with a word of your reply all the same.
