From what I saw, he was jabbing and running. Clever tactics against a big, immobile guy.

Agree, he fought the right fight. Didn't think he landed enough punches to take it though.

I'd like to see the stats on punches thrown and landed.

How sad such a great sport is so corrupt.

As I said above when Don King is around anything is possible. The WBA is totally corrupt, there is no question about it after that.

No doubting Haye was the better fighter, but Valuev is hardly a disgrace to boxing. He's got a great career ahead in movies I believe....;)

Took a price on thursday afternoon on Valuev @ 13/8, which it thought was way overpriced. Odds influenced by hayes optimism i reckon. I will eat my hat if Haye wins. He is a decent boxer but he will not deal with Valuevs advantage on weight and reach. I can see Haye being put down early too. Big money to be made on predicting the round Valuev wins in for those who dare ! Best of luck to all who have a wager on this fight! ;)

Right then, my docket is in the bin so i suppose its time to eat my hat!!! :o Terrible fight. In the interest of the sport its better that Haye won.

Cant believe it, thought he ran away from valuev for the entire fight and barely threw a slap until the 12th. Im Shocked at the scoring.

Jeez, his 'landed'! that was the difference???

I think he deserved it, it was an extremely tactical fight right through to the twelfth and both fighters knew what they were doing....

...I mean nobody would actually blame hays from using tactics agains a seven stone heavier giant with 1 1/2 times the reach of the average person..lol....

...but the Giant could have done more! He didn't! End of fight...

Go on the Hays..! He deserved it..

Did anyone else think it was a boring fight?

Yeah jeez... Fair dues so to Haye tho i thought he was gonna get dominated he backed off and used his speed avoiding Valuevs punches and makin him look silly. Although I didn't see 4 points in it and he wasn't the aggressor

i think it all depends on how badly injured his right hand is. He said he done it in in the 2nd / 3rd round. If that is the case then he fought a clever fight and done well to grind out the result. Valuev is a monster. Everyone raves about pac moving up weights and fighting guys heavier -this guy was a full 7 stone heavier than haye, how else could you beat him.

I seen 4 points in it and it was Valuev that was that far ahead.

Hayes % will be much higher and while he did hit and run it was more then Valuev did.

Haye didnt look awesome but who ever has against valuev. The size difference was so much that he had to be very very careful. He fought a good fight all things considered. If it was any other HW other than either kilitz or valuev id be critical but eyes on the bigger prize and all that

That's a bit unfair to Haye, he wanted the fight pushed back to recover properly but klitschko decided to fight someone else.
Well genuine injury or not, next in line for Haye is Klitschko (that is the first time is spelled his name right!) and justice will be served as he will most likely destroy Haye.

Next in line is one of the Klitschko's hopefully. I would like to see Haye win even though I think either would teach him a lesson.

whatever happens the next couple of years in the H/W division have just got a whole lot more interesting. Haye will annoy the f#ck out of the klitscho's. Hopefully he will get Wladimir first and beat him then set up a massive bout with Vitali. 2 titles each on the line.

Let's be fair here. If any Irish fighter won a world title it would be described in the same manner by RTE regardless of how the fight went.

You don't have a clue how to score a fight if you think that. Valuev won it clearly.

I've stated already that I hate watcing his fights but this is how it went.

Valuev lost 1,2,3 and then won 4,5,6,7,8 to go two up, Haye won 9 and Valuev won 10, Valuev won 11 to go 3 up and Haye won 12.

I'm actually giving tight rounds to Haye there that I had even.

Vitali only has one belt! Wladimir has 3.

Agree wholeheartedly! And if they guy makes a few bucks out of doing adds for YR Sauce, who cares...He got in the ring giving away seven stone at the end of the day. I know I would be like some kind of pancake mixture dripping down the edge of the auditorium if a big guy like that hit me...lol...

...He did win, on tactics, that's what you do when your giving away seven stone! Good on em!

Well if Pac wins against Cotto he will have been champion at 7 weight divisions. I'm not 100% sure but I don't think anyone has ever done that before. So if he wins he will most certainly be going down in the history books.

To all the people on here that are giving out about Haye not standing toe to toe with Valuev. If you were put in an enclosed space with a freak like Valuev, would you stand in front of him and trade blows with him or would you do what Haye did, dodge and move and get the odd combo in?
If you picked the first option, you are simply crazy tbh.

Also i have nothing against "The Brits", but i do not like Haye a bit, too mouthy for his own good and makes the sport look like a joke, was he not supposed to take on the other Klitschko after he was able to fight after hi injury? Vitali was it? then went for Valuev?

I dunno. If he has the power to rock Valuev, he surely has the power (and the speed) to beat either Klitschko. With Don King involved, we're probably going to get the chance to find out.

Lads this fight was a damp squib but at least Chad Dawson v Glen Johnson for the Light Heavyweight title is on in an hour.

Might actually see some boxing tonight.

You do what you have to to win the fight. Sometimes that means winning ugly. I completely agree with you in that respect but what pisses me off is that he didn't do enough to win. It's the judges I'm giving out about. Haye only won the 1,2 and 12th from what I saw. Anyway, the decision has been make. No point crying about spilled milk.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 74 ✭✭Shane101

Haye made him look silly chasing him around the ring. He was the aggressor yeah, but he didn't land much and missed loads. Haye hit rarely, but when he did he made it count and Haye definatly has more skill than Valuev .

Hayes already said he injured his hand in the second round.

Hayes already said he injured his hand in the second round.

Maybe he did but that guy talks so much crap,I wouldn't believe anything that comes out of his mouth tbh.

He didnt look like doing much in the 1st round either though. He was on top in that, but not by a huge amount and Valuev didnt do anything in that round.

Agree with pretty much everyone else, what fight were the judges watching.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,625 ✭✭✭✭Johner

Both fighters terrible. Valuev won the fight though. Haye did **** all, I wanted Haye to win but dont no how he did, I really hate boxing.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 36,501 ✭✭✭✭SlickRic

no idea what fight the judges were marking.

it's great that Haye won, for the sake of shaking up the division, but he did not throw enough punches to take a belt off the champion.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 723 ✭✭✭Ian_K

I was half expecting the judges to give it to Valuev ... would have made Haye look like a spa with his premature celebrations ... probably should hav lost it on points really ... didn't think he did enough 2 take it in the end ... should have pushed forward and gone for it when he had the big man on the ropes in the 12th ... fair play to him anyway - should bring a bit of life back 2 the division if nothing else

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 554 ✭✭✭spongeman

The 3 guys in the Sky studio and Jim Watt all said Valuev won, to be fair.

They seemed to be mildly surprised and underwhelmed.

    As I was.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,721 ✭✭✭✭ctrl-alt-delete

I saw most of the fight, was watching it on a stream. I'd watch boxing a good bit, but wouldn't be up on scoring a fight as good as most on here.

However from what i saw tonight, yes it was a boring fight, but it was a total mismatch. As others have said Haye would have been stupid to stand his ground with Valuev, the man is a giant and the weight difference is huge.

For all those saying Haye done nothing and that he was running away, Valuev did very little either? Haye punch stats were better, Valuev was slow and lethargic (as you'd expect). I don't remember him rocking Haye at all, Haye has shown he has some power in his punch to turn that monsters legs to jelly.

I'm delighted for him, as i have always been a fan. I don't care what nationality he is, or how he or his fellow countrymen and media celebrate, to think us on this side of the water would do any different is naieve.
