Need to move a pigeon nest

We have a pigeon nest on our small balcony and need to move it as we cannot have a flock of chicks out there for 4-5 weeks.

Is it possible to move the nest to another area below the balcony level where the parent birds can find it?

The eggs are almost ready to hatch and we dont want to kill them.

    Any ideas what to do?!

If you move or touch the nest the parents will desert it. I would of though that it is very late in the season for eggs. Are you sure that they are being incubated ?. The birds have spent a lot of time building the nest, mating & laying eggs. Surely you can give them a bit of time ?.

Not too late for pigeons, I think. Don't they breed almost all the time?

Can't you find a way to section off part of your balcony for them? It will only be for a few weeks.

Your balcony is probably where their trees used to be.

I'm sure if you let them hatch their eggs and then rear their babies, maybe then you can prevent them nesting there again.

Your probably right in that a city can provide a microclimate with plenty of food so the breeding is not restricted.

Call Mooney & get them to put a camera up there.

If you look at the OPs location, its Sydney, so spring over there. I know anyone can put any location down, doesn't necessary mean they are in Sydney, but as it was posted at 2am as well, seems likely:D

Sorry, no advice, but we have swallows nesting in our sheds every year and they're a pain, but we put up with it cos its lovely to see them, could be a nice project to watch the chicks grow.

Well spotted on the time of year - im over in Sydney so its Spring here.

Looks like we are just going to have to let them hatch and take over the place for a few weeks! Haven't the heart to disturb them.

    Cheers.

Don't know the rules in Sydney but it is illegal to disturb a nesting bird in Ireland, even a pigeon! It will only take 4 weeks for the chicks to fledge and then you can take the next down, it might not neccessarily get rid of the pigeons though cos pigeons orignially nested on cliff faces so a bear balcony won't bother them!!

    Good to know - Cheers.

Have blocked off the area in the balcony they have taken over, hopefully that will keep the bird sh1t to a minimum!!
