    On topic, i bought a tv up north 2 years ago, was 1240euro, same tv was 1500 in power city and thats the cheapest i could find it here.

    Things are still too expensive down here, prices need to drop, we're going to have far less money in our pockets over the next few budgets hopefully this will make it more competitive here.

    Ill continue to shop up north while there are savings to be made, if the savings are marginal ive no problem buying everything here.

    Oh and as for tesco, they sell the 15x440ml cans of Carlsberg export here for 15 euro, theyre 11euro up north but the cans are shipped from the uk/north.
    Tesco are also having lots of temp deals to advertise in an attempt to get more regular custom. LAst week it was 3xsemi decent bottles of normally 7euro 50 wine for 15 euro. This week its 2x8 packs of Carlsberg for 24euro.

    Rather than dropping prices theyre just giving temp offers which of course will be very short term if they get the custom back.

    Even if they did - well - it's a single market isn't it? HM Revenue & Customs tried to do something similar on the cross-Channel booze cruisers and came unstuck:

    If shoppers from the Republic are to be discouraged from shopping in the North as you suggest, should holidaymakers from the Republic also be discouraged from holidaying in the North.

    Honestly I think the answer is clear; Ireland needs to leave the euro and go back to the irish pound! This will instantly make NI very expensive by comparison as the exchange rate will sky rocket; if it ever drops down the government can always then peg it in their favour to keep shoppers here. Instant win solution!
