Hi everybody, my dog is two year old, had run away approximatly one month ago, came back next day, and everything seemed to be alright, but now i can see that she put on weight and her nipples became realy big, i read few articles where they say that these are the symptoms of pregnancy. My dog is a syberian husky and it's a shame that she wasn't crossed with the same breed and i can only guess what puppies would be, likly german shepard as my neighbour has one. So i want to ask if there's anyoune there who is planning to get a dog, would give puppies away when they are borned absolutly for free or is there any place in dublin where them puppies would be have taken care of. She'll deliver in couple of weeks

she'll be carrying the pups for approx 9 weeks, so if she got pregnant 4 weeks ago she'll have another 5 to go, you can't re-home the puppies until they have been with the mother for at least 8 weeks, 10 is better to get them socialised, contact the ISPCA if you are unable to deal with them yourself

We can take these pups into foster care but they have to be at least 5 weeks or preferably older and weaned before we can seperate them from their mother. We would keep them together in a foster home until they are at least 10 weeks old and until home checked homes can be found, they will be vaccinated, micro-chipped and neutered in our care. We can assist with worming/food and advice up to that point if needed. Please put the mother on a high quality puppy food to keep her strength up until they are weaned. phone 0863304333

Definitely go to the vet and get her the once over, the vet will advise what to feed her as she'll need more than the usual food to have healthy pups and keep her strong.
Set up a quiet place for her to hide away where she's not disturbed and she'll start to use it. She'll need a a whelping box and couple of other things so best thing would be to contact D.I.D as in suziwalsh's post and ask, they will give you all the info you need.

I visited vet one week ago and he didn't tell me anything about pregnancy, he said that the dog in very good condition, just the skin is a bit dry, got her vaccinated and told to give her one spoon of veg oil everyday and that's it. She's got a kennel outside the house, but i don't know if that's a good place for her to deliver, i'm thinking of keeping her at home these days , just to take for a walk and be prepared for few more guy to come in this world ...

I'm going to sound really, really harsh now, and I apologise if I offend anybody. If the bitch is 4 weeks pregnant, would your vet consider doing an emergency spay? Your bitch could have 10 pups, and yes, whilst DID will take care of them (I know that they will find them great homes) that is a lot of dogs to add to the already overburdened rescue situation. I run a rescue for siberian huskies and I have dogs coming out of my ears at the moment, with more on the way.

As I say, I don't want to offend or upset anybody, but that is an option that may be worth considering.

If you want the bitch to have the pups, then be prepared for a lot of very hard work. You will need time off work when she whelps. She may not be able to whelp naturally, and have to have a ceasarian, which will cost a fair bit of money. She may reject the pups, and you will have to feed them every 2 hours around the clock - and I mean EVERY 2 hours, middle of the night or not. As you don't know what the father is, you don't know how big the pups are going to be, so please be very careful. Sibes aren't a small dog, but still, if she mated with a very large dog, she may not be able to whelp naturally, so when she starts, please stay with her until you are certain the last pup has been born.

Go and talk to your vet and see what all of the options are.

    Best of luck.

It would be best to set her up indoors somewhere and let her have an area to have her pups in, don't forget call me or email me at pups@dogsindistress.org if you need help. We usually call out to your home and can worm the pups etc when they arrive or give you a hand with anything or if you need food/bedding etc

Just keep her comfortable and quiet especially after she has the pups

Sound advice, if you can take it.

Have to agree with ISDW. I know it sounds harsh but I think it's best for the dog - for one thing this won't happen again.

yep - have a think on what ISDW said, cos after almost 8 weeks of looking after pups i can tell you it ain't easy - completely takes over your life

Competely agree...was going to say the same but thought it might be too late for an emergency spay. Definately the best option.....and ISDW is a husky expert and I would have called on her help with the pups anyway ;)

Much safer option for all involved.
