Less Stressful Shopping Alternative to Newry

Not sure if this is the forum to post in, but here goes...

So basically the OH and I will be heading up north again before Christmas, but after 8 years of popping up to Newry from Dundalk or Drogheda the stress of dealing with the crowds and traffic (which definately gotten a lot lot worse in the last past couple of years) has finally gotten to the point of being unbearable.

The crowds of people elbowing, kicking, punching and shouting their way over us last time we went was just downright ridiculous, I ending up being rammed with a trolly and accquiring a rather large bruise. That with anything worth getting always seeming to out of stock most of the time and two hour queues for the check-outs is just getting a bit much.

I was wondering if anyone could reccommend an alternative to Newry, preferably with fewer parking/crowding issues.

We're thinking thinking Rushmere in Craigavon and were wondering what the centre was like? How big is the Sainsburys up there, does it have Clothing/Toy/Electronic departments?

    Thanks in advance! x

Rushmere would be a good alternative with Argos, Matalan,Tesco,Sainsburys etc. Also Portadown and Lurgan are only a 5 minute drive away as well. Also B&q and Halfords just across the road from Rushmere.I am going to rushmere this afternoon .Will check out Sainsburys for you and post up later.

Sainsbury's in the Kennedy Centre in Belfast, 5-6 minutes onwards from Sprucefield in Lisburn.

Brand new Sainsbury's, can still smell the fresh paint. All their signs in english are accompanied by the Irish name too.

Sooooo much space in between isle's, the staff are top-class, as are most of Sainsbury's but even more so here, very friendly and helpful.

They have a large area for clothing, very nice in stuff in fact and great prices, womens, children and men. Next to that is a section for home.

All in all a great place to shop, isn't busy and had great parking, park underground and straight in.

Directions: Go to Sprucefield via the A1 from Newry signposted to Belfast, when you reach Sprucefield follow the road to the M1 to Belfast, literally just seconds from Sprucefield. Take the exit at Junction 2 about 5-6 minutes down the M1, on leaving Junction 2 stay left and continue to the Falls. Soon after on the right hand side you will see McDonalds, Asda in the Westwood Shopping centre. Continue onwards to the roundabout and take the 3rd exit and continue onwards for 150 yards on the right hand side at the lights will be a entry for the Kennedy centre. Sainsbury's is at the end.

    Enjoy your hassle free shopping.

Well on the way you got The Outlet 8 minutes outside Newry.

In Sprucefield there is Sainsbury's, Next (home store) B&Q, Toys R Us, Argos on the other side of the roundabout is Spucefield again and there is M&S (biggest in NI I think) Boots, JJB and a couple of others.

Here are the shops in the Westwood Centre.

Here are the shops in the Kennedy Centre.

1 minute from the Kennedy Centre is the Park Centre and here are the shops there.

Can't help anymore than that. All the best.

    Thanks... That looks pretty good.

We'll probably end up heading up there at some point even if its not this time.

Sainsbury's at rushmere DO NOT carry the range of electronics that their sister store at Sprucefield do and Tescos at rushmere have stopped carrying electonics and video games etc. as well. It would appear that Sprucefield would be your best bet. Also the fact that Lisburn and Belfast are only minutes away would be a great benefit if you can't find what you are looking for at Sprucefield.Anyhow best of luck and enjoy your day out.:)

Cookstown and Dungannon are 8 miles from each other with - Sainsburys, Asda, M+S, SuperValu, Heatons, Costcutters plus loads of other great stores and not a southern reg car or accent in sight!!

Rushmere in Craigavon would be my preference. Fairly tolerant of southern accents for a loyalist stronghold.
