Flamed Diving

Hi, I am looking for databases that provide this type of data, going back as far as 1993. I'm not having much luck going back further than 2005ish. The only place I found with the historical data I need was Political Risk Services, which unfortunately charge for the data. Anyone have student-friendly suggestions?

p.s. I originally intended to use the global competitiveness report data for this, but while they provide the current edition for free as PDF, they only provide past editions as hardback, with a fee. If anyone knows a way around this problem, fire away.

I've used such databases, let me dig out the references, I can't recall off hand where they are.

The Freedom Centre (or something like that) was one which was very good, there is a global one which I think was IMF that was very comprehensive and a couple of legal economists compiled a general legal/political one.

Yeah, I just need some variables to account for institutional and infrastructural differences between countries. Although the main relationship I am measuring is:

US FDI = Corp Tax + X(lotsa things)

Came across this just now. The link above has data as far back as 1996 maybe more. Click on the pdf for the country you're looking for data for and from page 2 onwards there should be loads of useful links with plenty of free data.
