    What a clusterfcuk!

People get mad paranoid they're being 'spoilered' even though they have no idea whether they are or not. :p

ALSO - that trailer looks great. My missis and I are looking forward to Visery's scene!

For those who are interested, the complete "A Song of Ice and Fire" (all the books published up until now so doesn't include "A Dance With Dragons" and therefore is complete only in the sense that it is incomplete) is available for $20 or approximately €15 on Kindle.

Definitely going to re-read these before A Dance with Dragons and there was no way I'd be picking up those heavy dead tree things again :p

Me too. The wife hasn't gotten that far in the book yet so it should be a good episode for her.

Episode 6 was just awesome! The show is getting even better.

Bronn's duel, Viserys' crowning and Peter Dinklage is really getting in to his character.

Wish I had HBO so I could watch the 7th episode!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 24,276 ✭✭✭✭Sleepy

Are HBO doing two episodes in a row or something?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,222 ✭✭✭Scruff

they dont seem to have, at least from what i can see that the cousins are posting over at the moment...

  • Subscribers Posts: 32,855 ✭✭✭✭5starpool

One was on HBO Go only, which I believe is some sort of mobile only service, so might not be as easy to 'cousinify'.

hbo go was being hammered, lots of people weren't able to actually watch episode 7. once it sorts itself out, im sure our cousins will get cracking.

Why? Are you a particularly attractive female? I only get a 500 max inbox I wanna save that for all the potential women who could possibly, maybe, some day contact me...

Looking forward to 6 tonight. Not too pushed on watching them on Sundays, we're enjoying our Monday evenings watching it. Really is moving a lot faster than I thought it would. Not sure what's going to be in any particular episode.

The episode 7 one I watched, while not perfect, was still fine to watch. No less exciting because I've read the books. Excellent stuff. Pity the series wasn't 12 hours long though really.

What do you get when you cross two amazing TV shows?
    Arrested Westeros

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 24,276 ✭✭✭✭Sleepy

My o/h was in absolute shock at Vicerys being crowned and
Ned being double-crossed by Littlefinger, even though she didn't trust him at all, she thought it'd be later on before he'd cross Ned
    (spoilers for episode 7)

You might want to not read the sci-fi thread in that case, its for the books as well and I had that post written out with spoilers included but changed it at the last minute because it looked like Zapp hadn't read the books.

Absolutely. As a book reader my anticipation is partially to see how certain scenes are handled and partially to read the uproar in the TV thread!

I think Song of Fire and Ice was the first book that I had to put down due to 'plot shock' on a number of occasions.

Incidently reading Clash of Kings at the moment. There is a flashback/vision scene were you see a young Aegon Targaryen, his father proclaims that 'he has a song, he is the prince that was promised, and his is the song of fire and ice'. I had forgotten this scene, didn't realise 'song of fire and ice' was used in the plot. Now was this Aegon V The Unlikely (Grandfather of Aerys the Mad King)or Aegon the son of Prince Rhaegar?

I know, I have nearly all the series read.

I interpreted what you said...: "reading to the reaction of others", as meaning reading about their reactions actually better than watching/reading the series yourself. Which I saw someone say before, and I find rather nonsensical.

Okay so I'm enjoying the quick pace of the show at the moment - but what was the story with Littlefinger's soft porn show?

At least one person I spoke to missed most of what he had to say (which was important) during it as they were to focussed on the "action" in the background.

(A good excuse to watch it again, I suppose :pac:)

It was just a scene constructed to flesh out the story of his affection for Catelyn and his duel with Brandon Stark, which was relayed via Catelyn's memories in the books. Knowing more of that backstory helps contextualise Littlefinger's motivations for what happened at the end of the episode. The use of the girls in the brothel is clever enough. He wouldn't have that kind of discussion with any of the "named" characters. The situation just provided opportunity for exposition.

I'm aware of the importance of the exposition which is why I thought perhaps it would have been wiser to tone down the lesbian romping!

While use of barenaked hoors is always a winner for male HBO watchers (apart from Renly fans!) perhaps they could just have been doing something a little less distracting while remaining just as naked. :)

Or it could have been shot or edited together in a manner to take the emphasis off the 'show'.

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 2,449 ✭✭✭SuperInfinity

I found it distracting as well.

The lesbian scene was fine, it was Littlefinger's blathering on that I found disturbing/unnecessary. :)

The last thing you want to hear when you're watching hot sex is a manly voice like Littlefinger's.

    GOT meme

    Stupid Ned Stark

I was wondering if there is the possibility for a few alternatives from clever boardies? Here one I (badly) made earlier

lol, some of those are very funny. I'd be more 1, 6, 7.

I'm a little uncertain of what 3 is referring to.

8 I would put a slight question mark over. Ned could have argued with Robert more about Lady during the "hearing", since Robert didn't seem too bothered either way. However to disobey a King's direct order when you claim you will....

10 I just plain disagree with. Ned had to tell her what was going on, it was only fair.

Here is another one I would make:

"Feel bound by honour, duty and truth?

Neglect to tell the dying King the truth. which he could put in his letter and probably save thousands of lives and years of war and bloodshed, so as not to hurt his feelings of being cheated on by his estranged wife."

Interestingly that Ned Memes thing was posted on the TV thread and I was pretty sure the last one references something that hasn't been revealed on the show yet. Maybe it has but either way I 'aint gonna bring any attention to it.

Yes but it is presented as a foolish thing to do. The reason it is foolish has yet to be shown surely.

I think it's more that she will kick up a fuss and be spoilt as she tends to be, and him telling her that he was planning to take her back to winterfell is not the cause of what happens after this point.

In the books didn't Sansa go to Cersei before Ned's arrest. I wonder how they are going to work this is now or i it is being left out.

The Sansa in the show comes across much differently from the books, instead of the perfectly mannered girl filled with delusions about love, nobility and the splendor of court she's just a petulant teenager.

    Disagree.

Care to expand on that point?

  • Hosted Moderators Posts: 8,142 ✭✭✭fitz

In fairness, she was just as much of a pain in the ass in the book. I'd say they left out her going to Cersei because to a large extent, the scene wasn't needed. Things were coming to a head one way or another, so why waste screen time on it? Would have been nice to have it included, but not everything can be given the constraints of the medium...

Sansa could be pretty rash in the books also, especially to her sister... for example saying she wish they had killed her instead of Lady, calling things stupid, partly being a liar about something important, being mean and acting like he was superior in general.

I agree that the scene in episode 6 with Septa Mordane showed her as very different, I have no idea why they put that in. However overall I think she's pretty much like she is in the books.

Newest episode is great. Am I right in thinking the next one is the last in the series?

    Bronn is a legend.
    "...you probably wouldn't know him"
although I had my misgivings about the casting (I thought the actor should've been younger) I have to say that Jerome Flynn is doing an excellent job. As is Dinklage.
