How does one find out the tax for car for year?

    hi all...
    i googled the above and it brought me to a calculator, which said that road tax was based on engine size,. but isn't it now on emissions? i want to find out what the tax on a bmw 525 would be..it tells me 938...surely not??

    Depends if its first registered before, during or since 2008 and if its petrol or diesel

    motortax.ie or run the reg through mywheels.ie - it will tell you the tax rate!

    i believe it was pre 1998 and i know it's a diesel...2498 diesel. tried the ros website, the state tax site but no joy. 900 per year on a 2.5 diesel sounds horrible!!

    You are on the old tax system, emmissions is only on NEW cars reg'd from july '08 onwards.

    So it'll be €935 but expect it to go up in the budget!

    Damn!! thats alot of tax!! Me thinks a BMW 525 is not a recession car at all....
    What a pity....i really wanted to get one, there's great value to be had, just that the tax takes it away. much thanks to all, and that site to show the rate? nice touch..
