Why do Canadians always generalise so much? Every single one of them, even those that are yet to be born?

    See what I did there?

I have a present for you.

Just replace "women" with "men" and it should apply just fine.

    Thank you, come again.

Because watching one girl holding back another girls hair while she vomits doesn't really do it for me.

The truth is it's usually more about attitude & confidence not looks.
One of the most amazing women I know has shed loads of confidence and attitute, a sexy Italian American woman. She gives the time of day to every guy who talks to her and has the confidence to walk straight over to guys she likes.

I only realised what Irish women were missing when I met her, suppose it boils down to confidence and playfulness.

i think they complain because either they're not getting laid, their irish girlfriend is pig ugly, or they're banging a foreign chick in a "take-that-ugly-irish-bitches-my-gf-is-foreign" kind of way.

I think we're a decent looking bunch, maybe we need to look after ourselves a bit better because there are a lot more tubbers here than in France or Spain for example.

But at my gym there are really some absolutely stunning Irish girls in great shape. So let's all shape up and we'll be the best looking people in the world!

The average European is way hotter than the average Irish woman. Go to belgium, germany, holland, poland or france during the summer... WOW.

Irish women tend to be bitchy, self righteous, holier than thou, high maintenance and generally not nice. They still have this braindead opinion that the man should pay for everything. It's ok to skip a bunch of guys in a queue because they have a set of tits. I don't hate Irish women, I just think a lot of them need a right slap in the face.

I don't do any of these things. And I don't know many women who would either.

Where on earth are you people meeting this women?

I don't get this hype about Eastern European women. The majority (not all) that I've met have been quite stuck up, and I've figured that out without trying to chat 'em up. A few posters are mentioning diet etc. as a reason why Irish women aren't better looking. You guys are obviously socialising in the wrong places.

All over Ireland actually... This is the impression I get from the MAJORITY of Irish women.

I used to club a LOT, and witnessed the queue skipping and drink stealing bitchiness much too often. Irish women expect too much. Of course not every Irish woman, there are a lot of really nice, sweet attractive genuine women out there, but your b!tch counterparts are ruining it for ye.

Its too broad a suggestion that Irish men find Irish women unattractive. Like anywhere else in the world theres some attractive people and some unattractive people. There are some with stuck up attitudes, and there are some with great personalities.

One thing I'll say is I hate fake tan myself, and never wear it. It can look ridiculous on our pale Irish skins. Some women could also do with class on how to apply their make-up too, the foundation colours can be so wrong.

I don't really have any issues with Irish guys. Some can be a bit twaty yeah - but most are a great laugh, whereas elsewhere in Europe the humour can be a bit stiff.

    Interesting.

It's a figure of speach, as in, they should wake up to reality. Equality and all that?

Irish women are good looking. Attitude wise a lot of men don't find them attractive because it's almost a rite of passage for women to treat men approaching them with contempt in nightclubs, probably because of insecurity/shyness. Also a lot of Irish women aren't too receptive to flirting, and go around with a group mentality, which is intimidating for men.

As for Canadians, you are just a bunch of mongrels like the US or Australia, so you can't really say "Canadians are this or that", as you're not an old nation of people or ethnic group like we are. I married a Canadian once and when she was here everyone would just assume she was irish with the red hair and all, but when I was in Canada some of her friends would have Polish or Indian or Greek names.

So Canadians, you try keeping the same gene pool for 1000s of years and we'll see how gorgeous you are.

I think this whole point can be understood by taking a sample of what is currently seen as the "good looking" Irish look.

Anyone who reads the metro or herald am in the morning will be more than familiar with those quasi-model "metro girls" (ruth o'neill, something kavanagh etc). They are exactly what's wrong with irish girls. They are NOT smoking hot girls, they are just "ok, not bad". By far the best, and i mean by a long shot, is that georgia salpa (google image her if you need to!). Apart from not being milky white, blonde ghd'd hair, and trying to be skinnier than she naturally is, she has an awesome personality. While most irish girls go for the kind of trashy, "Krystal" look and like pop music, makeup and all the other stereotypical girl stuff (krystal is a club for wannabe socialites btw), that georgia one is into music, travelling, and everything that makes someone "normal and interesting". I'm just using georgia as an example because a) she has such a unique look compared to what most irish girls strive to achieve, and b) i know one of her mates pretty well and see her about the place so know what she's like.

So my point is that most (not all, i have met a lot of unbelievable irish girls who trump anyone iv seen in other countries), but most you see out at night have rubbish personalities, which in turn denotes what they look like. And unfortunately for a lot of the girls that don't go for the "metro girl" look, they have no interest in fitness or anything so kinda get a bit, eh, blocky i suppose.

    Um.. what?

I was defending Irish women saying they're gorgeous. Why are you attacking me..?

I even stated in an entirely different thread that we're a new breed and we haven't had a chance to develop our own "look" yet and it's incredibly hard to pin where we're from at a glance.

Where the hell did this come from?

I didn't mean to sound like I was attacking you I was just saying that with Canadians, Aussies etc you can't say "Australians/Canucks are ugly/gorgeous" because they're just a big melting pot. Whereas with Irish we've probably looked the same for 1000s of years. Except they they didn't keep fake tan in their Crannógs as far as I know.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 998 ✭✭✭maddogcollins

As mentioned above, this is AH. I personally have done alot of travel and in my opinion Irish women are right up there with the best of the rest. Eastern European women we see in Ireland and on TV are the good looking ones. Lads wont look twice at an "ugly" woman walking past and may assume they are irish when they could be foreign. The world and women always looks better when you ignore whats on your doorstep (and have your preconcieved idea that all foreign women are what you see in the mags and page 3).

Alot of it has to do with "standards". Irish lads seem to think that they are gods gift to women (especially with drink in them) and think that they should all have the hottest looking woman around, hence all irish women are unattractive as they are not tall, tanned and blonde (and most likely rejected your advances on the dance floor the night before for being too drunk and self confident).

Overall I think most "normal" (if i can use that word) men do not think Irish women are unattractive..The other just are not getting anywhere with them!!

Sorry, the use of the word "mongrels" threw me.

Irish girls are class! personality-wise there are some dopes around but they are much better looking than your average girl from the states, UK or the continent! Strange actually, I think most of the good looking eastern european girls have left!!!!

I'm not disagreeing with you in the sense that I know very well that some women are dog ignorant, skipping queues, stealing drinks etc (tbh, I think I've only seen it happen 3 times in as many years) but don't you (and everyone else posting similar opinions to yours) not think that deciding Irish women are ugly and rude, based on your experiences in a night club is a bit silly?

I mean, I've been cheated on, lied to, threatened, bruised, shoved etc by an Irish man. I've endured dates with Irish men where they've burped the whole way through, I've been stood up by Irish men, I've been groped, spanked, mauled in clubs, by Irish men.

Yet I think Irish men are great. Even now, having read the thread I can't imagine how my above experiences would taint my view on every Irish man out there. Is it not a bit simplistic? The reason I picked your post Ty Chilly Vessel is that I generally enjoy reading what you post but I am having difficulty understanding how on earth a group full of drunk, vomiting Irish women speak for the rest of us?!

Also, some of the men here have posted some ridiculous examples of how Irish women are 'ugly'. I don't wear fake tan. I don't wear foundation. My face isn't orange and I'm not a slob. It sounds to me like the poor men of AH are hanging out in some kind of twilight zone full of wagons coz the examples expressed here are not accurate or fair to say about Irish women, as a whole.

Mongrel does have some deep-rooted negative connotations as a rule, usually related to race but it's just not a particularly PC word these days.

I wouldn't normally take offense to it as I'm not a particularly PC person, but the rest of your post made it seem like there was a bit of intent behind it; text is funny like that, hard to tell. But all's well so. :)

PC term would be "multicultural" or just "mixed" btw.

God no, i would never expect to have sex with a woman that was just beaten or threatened. That would be pathetic taking advantage of a woman in such trauma.

Id ride him within an inch of his life. That way my fiance couldnt see it as cheating..

Irish men will say they prefer the Eastern European look because for the first time ever in our history, we are seeing Polish and Lithuanian girls walking down our streets every day and they are different looking from the norm. Anything that is different or new is often exciting to a whole range of people. A few more years of this, and the Eastern effect will have worn off guys, and the majority of Irish men will return to liking their Irish ladies.

I was in Budapest this year and I can honestly say, almost every woman in her 20's I seen in the town was amazing. Model pretty, all slim bodies, gorgeous.

Grenach, I've heard this triped out so often that I asked a Slovakian friend do you get used to seeing all the pretty girls around and almost become, desensititised to the wow effect.

He laughed at me and said of course not, how can you get bored of looking at beautiful women. He loves going home to see it and has said Irish women just don't look after themselves as well they do in Eastern Europe diet/fitness wise.

Irish women on average I would say are no better or worse than anyone else, (except maybe the Swedish, but the same applies for fellas on that one).

However it's when it comes down to mentality, attitude and mindset that Irish girls tend to fall behind... this is by no means all Irish girls but many many many...

    (a) fake tan, mini skirts, and unfeasibly high heels in the middle of winter with a howling gale and lashing rain - just why? Less does not always equal more.

    (b) I'm not looking for round-for-round drinking buddy.

    (C) being stylish is not the same as wearing whatever rubbish is on the catwalks at the time. 'fashionable' does not necessarily equate to stylish. Paris is a gret example.

    (d) the god's gift attitude, not necessarily with regard to looks, but skipping of queues, getting into clubs free, being loud and obnoxious, ladette and loutish. I have seen a wasted girl knock over a table of drinks, bat her eyelashes at the bouncer and walk away. If a fella had done the same thing in the same pub he'd be outside kissing cobblestones, another variant of this I've seen is a girl spill her drink on a complete stranger who happened to be sitting as she was walking past. He got thrown out as he simply must have done/said something. She played dumb and said nothing, while he was. Went back to her group, cue howls of laughter.

    (e) girls you meet out in Ireland assuming this persona of a ditzy muppet, when in fact they are very interesting, coherent and educated.

    (f) tv - Sex and the City, the Hills, etc etc. Why must you try to emulate that crap.

    (g) etiquette and manners, or rather the lack thereof. Also the labelling of any guy that has as chauvinistic, old fashioned, gay etc. Apparently it's great in the rom-coms, lots of dewy eyed 'awwh why couldn't I get a guy like that', in reality you're more likely to be laughed at.

I wouldn't say unattractive at all, more unapproachable.

    +1

I was invited to a singles night last Saturday. ( I'm going to regret this e-mail on the insult thread )
Ended up mostly a load of thirty-something professional types.

Everyone was given a sticker of half of a famous couple and had to find their other half... eg. "Adam & Eve", "Romeo & Juliet" etc. There were a few of each so you weren't stuck with a bad one !

But the vast majority of women basically sat down or in defensive groups and didn't make any effort whatsoever to mingle. I worked the room, going up chatting to all sorts but my point is, these were women in their late thirties. When there were gaps in the music you could actually hear their biological clocks ticking. This whole lazy and unapproachable attitude of Irish women is back-firing badly on them, and they'll only realise it when it's too late. My max age for a woman is around 35, so that ruled out a good half of the room.

Yup forgot to mention this one. A sort of peter pan attitude.. with a fear of commitment etc. Sure there's always time to settle down .. this isn't nearly as prevalent anywhere else I have lived.

god I've had this argument many times on here - Irish men are insecure and cannot handle that the Irish women are now strong, independant and assertive so they try to knock them down by calling them ugly.

A cheap drink and a cheesy chat up line does not turn our heads anymore. I never expect a guy to pay for everything but I do expect him to open doors on dates and be polite and not to be falling off his chair pissed - which lets face it is what most of us sexy ladies have to put up with on a Saturday night.

You guys haven't the foggiest how to treat a women. I actually had one guy fall on the ground drunk as he tried to chat me up -disgusting, another gave me a bruise while he slapped my arse. Nice. And you wonder why girls think most of ye are shiite???? Get out from behind your computer and move out of your mams house and you might be surprised - oh and STOP USING LYNX :P

I think there are a lot of beautiful Irish girls however I have only had 1 irish girlfriend. The rest have been foreign (namely Italian and American).

In my experience Irish girls play mind games and are never clear on what they want (yes I am generalising but that is my own personal experience so far) but foreign girls get straight to the point.

Nowadays I struggle to tell if an Irish girl likes me for all the mind f*cking that goes on :( if you are an Irish girl and like me then just tell me! especially if you are a boardsie, female boardsies are the best ;)

I seriously think its a case of the grass is always greener on the other side.

Irish men want something different and then you read around or talk to men from other countries and they think Irish women are attractive and they would love one.

Here's the catch though, you can be all of those things without acting like a bitch. That's where Irish girls go wrong. Being "strong, independent and assertive" is not a carte blanche to do whatever the hell you like.

Girls in a lot of countries are all of those things, yet are mature enough not to have to 'prove' how 'strong' etc they are at every turn.

This is probably most Irish guys falldown. Hammered either male or female will not find you a mate, let alone a hot one. I like Irish guys, I find Americans mostly talk about money, French, Spanish & Italians have a funny look in their eye when you dare open your mouth, but if Irish men feel like most here we may as well start looking elsewhere. Any cute Eastern European MALE boardsies??? Pics pls.....

I seriously think its a case of the grass is always greener on the other side.

i would seriously be worried if the "grass" was greener on "that" side :D

god I've had this argument many times on here - Irish men are insecure and cannot handle that the Irish women are now strong, independant and assertive so they try to knock them down by calling them ugly.

theres a thin line separating "strong, independant and assertive" from "loud, obnoxious and rude"

anyways theres always exception to generalize a whole gender or race due to a few outliers is called stereotyping
