Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Tottenham goalkeeper Carlo Cudicini has been injured in a motorbike crash in London.

The Italian has been rushed to hospital after suffering injuries described by the police as 'possibly life-changing'.

Cudicini's BMW superbike collided with a Ford Fiesta on Forest Road, Walthamstow at 10.30am on Thursday morning.

Early indications suggest the former Chelsea man is being treated for a suspected broken pelvis.

A police spokesperson confirmed: "A 36-year-old male suffered injuries described as possibly life-changing and was taken to an East London hospital for further assessment and treatment."

A Tottenham spokesperson confirmed Cudicini had been involved in an accident, but were unsure of his injuries.

"We can confirm Carlo Cudicini was involved in a road accident this morning. The club doctor is with him at hospital where we await the result of scans and tests," said the Spurs spokesperson.

"When more is known and things are made clear, a statement will be made through the club's website.

I am surprised clubs allow their players to drive motorcycles. I really hope he makes a full recovery.

With the way they write off cars I'd agree with you. Remember Ronaldos Ferrari!

    Get well soon Carlo

I was under the impression (read it somewhere I think) that most players contracts forbid them from riding motorbikes/skiing and some other dangerous activites
Maybe I'm raving though, anyone else heard of this

As a biker I have to say this is a ridiculously ignorant statement to make.

No its not, if you have an accident on a bike. You are more likely to be killed than if you've been driving a car or SUV etc.

Yes it is. You are more likely to be killed if you are the type of person who performs actions in such a way as to place yourself in danger of being killed. The act of riding a motorcycle alone is not enough to do this, your attitude to motorcycling goes a long way in determining how dangerous it is for you to do it.

Way OT sorry. Hope Carlo recovers well.

And as a statistician, it's not. The US's equivalent of the Road Safety Authority found that you're eight times more likely to be injured and thirty-five times more likely to die in an accident if you're on a motorbike. The main cause is not poor driving, it's drivers not seeing you and going boom.

    Get well soon, Carlo.

aye, i remember David batty at leeds was a massive speedway fan but they banned him from ever going on one while under contract

also why you rarely see players skiiing either, usually contracts forbid it

I will hazard a guess that that study did not break up motorcyclists by age, experience, gender, or training qualifications.

And in fact if you look at the "Causes of motorcycle accidents" table in that document, you can see they are all things that are avoidable or easily rectified.

Well, I know that a number of high profile athletes and actors all have clauses in their contracts stating they are not allowed to ride on motorcycles (for actors this is during the filming of a movie or whatever), Euan McGregor talked in length about it on top gear a few years ago.

I highly doubt that these clauses exist without proper thought as to why. Quite clearly the stakes are much higher for people riding bikes in comparison to being shielded by the skeleton of a car.

Hope Carlo Cudicini makes a speedy recovery.

    Hazard it all you like.

Some motorcyclists are idiots and are more prone to an accident by their reckless behaviour. Agreed completely. But It's safer for Ronaldo to be an idiot in a Ferrari than on a bike.

Even then, you're way more likely to be hit by an other idiot if you're a bike six inches wide than if you're in two-metre wide car. The report showed that half of motorcycle accidents happen at intersections, aka other people hit them. Hell, I've to go to court this very week to give evidence against a woman whose defence is "He was on a bike, I didn't see him!"

It doesn't have to be the motorcyclists fault. There are plenty of idiots in cars, lorries, SUV's etc. that would put the motorcyclist at risk with their driving. For example if a lorry crashed into a motorcycle it is very likely that the motorcyclist will get killed or seriously injured than if a lorry crashed into a car or SUV. Cars and SUV's offer far more protection than motorcycles will.

You're all making some very valid points.

However, I'd love to see a report on the statistics for how many accidents (fatal or otherwise) the highly trained Garda motorcyclists are involved in every year in Ireland. And that is my last post on this very off topic.

Always liked Cudicini. Couldn't understand at the time why Chelski replaced him.

Hope he recovers. Bad and sad week all round for keepers.

Off topic, Cudicini wanted to leave Chelsea to get more first team action.

Chelsea understood his situation and released him early from his contract due to his long service to the club.

    Hope he gets well soon.

This is such a dumb argument. Riding a motorbike is more dangerous because they offer less protection than cars. It's quite simple. And no matter how careful you are, you can't ensure that you won't make a mistake or, more importantly, that somebody else on the road won't put you in danger.

Looks like he might be in trouble for this with Spurs.

I heard before that premiership footballers aren't allowed ride bicycles and was wondering how spurs would allow him a motorbike.

It appears they didn't know about it.

Actually if you knew what you're talking about, you'd know isn't ignorant at all.
I've seen 2 professional footballing contracts in the last 6 years and both prohibited the use of Motorbikes, Jet Skis and other similar vehicles.

all the best carlo...no matter how well the surgery goes id say he will retire considering he is 36 and sub goalie for spurs, but yeah never know.
