    Hi,

I am looking to do a fundraising event soon. I plan to ask all my friends and family if they'd like to sponsor me.
Outside of that who else could I ask? How could I get others to sponsor me??

    Thanks.

Well depends what your fundraising event is,

If it's a pub quiz or organised night out etc. advertise it to the public.

If you're doing something like a marathon/swim etc that you are asking people to sponsor you for it's hard to ask strangers to support you but how about asking your family and friends to try and get their family and friends to donate. Or something like bag-packing, you can raise a lot of money from this but its very hard to organise if your event is coming soon.

Set up a facebook event (or fundraiser if there is that option) and invite all your friends + family, leave it open for anyone to join and allow others to invite new members. Encourage all your friends and family to invite their contacts. Have a link to somewhere you can donate online such as mycharity.ie

What is the event? Might be able to give more suggestions if we know what it is.

I'm running the marathon later this month.
I know it's really late but I thought it would be great to raise few bobs for a charity. I don't know how tho....
I've seen many people run for charity and I think it would be a kind thing to do and also motivate myself more.
I think the congregation from the church would be really generous and I have few ideas to raise money but I can't raise money until I know when it's allowed. It would be a con if I start raising money now wouldn't it? and it would be impossible since I've no cause.
Hope somebody can help me how to do it. Cheers!

Hi there great to see you are trying to make a difference. You can contact you local volunteering agency, each county has one and they should be able to help out best of luck

if you do the run for charity, a great website is www.mycharity.ie it lets you set up your own page and people can donate money to your cause on it, just tell everyone you know about it and add the link to your facebook or whatever you use profile and you'll be surprised how generous people are when they can donate from the comfort of their own chair!

good luck with the run :D

It can be the bane of volunteers all over but fundraising is often times an important part of helping an organisation help the community. Remember the forum charter that no direct fundraising or recruiting for fundraising is allowed. Here are some links to a range of ideas surrounding fundraising and what could be done. Schooldays.ie Focus Ireland irish Red Cross MyCharity.ie
    Managing volunteers from Volunteer.ie Here
I'm going to merge some threads with this and get the ball rolling to help people with this side of volunteering.

For a previous fundraiser I did (parachute jump for Age Action), I found that by setting up a page on www.mycharity.ie worked a dream. Age Action was one of the charities signed up to mycharity so it worked fine. Not sure which charity you are raising funds for, or if they are signed up to that website -- this will not be an option if they are not. But all I did then was to email friends and family around the world. A lot of cash just rolled in. For a lousy fund raiser like myself, it was a lifesaver. Eamon, Age Action.smile.gif

I work with a charity in my area and recently I've been contacting local social groups with a view to a parnership. Groups such as the local ICA guilds, Macra, Drama & Musical society groups, Comhltas, etc.

Another option is to get in touch with a Transition year class to come up with ideas for you.

Once you find a group willing to help, brainstorm with them to come up with ideas.

Hi guys, hope everyone is good and well.

The title says it self, fundraising.
Ive seriously been thinking about putting my self 100% into humanitarian work (as volunteer)

So i will need to raise money.

And i don't know how and where to start frankly.
Most ppl raises for a Cause/Charity but i will be raising for my own self, trip etc. To help the poor and ill.

    Please everyone, advice!
Have you ever been fundraising for such thing ? - Like for your trip abroad for relief etc ?
How did you manage to raise your funds, and the amount that's raised is it taxable here in Ireland ?

Please everyone share your experience, help me climbing over that wall and reach the goal.

Thanks so much in forward for your help. :)

I can offer some advice if you give me more details OnTheRun.

Where do you plan to go? What do you plan to work as? The only people who really get to go off and devote their lives to humanitarian work are missionary priests and nuns. For the rest of us it's usually financially impossible. Unless you are one hell of a business person and can get your own charity off the ground and attract funding.

If you're skilled in some way contact Goal or one of the other agencies and they would send you away.
If you google for long enough you can find a suitable organisation that will take you for free, and you'll only have to pay your own keep. If you want to fundraise for this type of thing it really depends on how many friends/family you have that will support you. If you're a great fundraiser you'll be fine.

Other than that, I know of lots of people who work for a year, save as much as they can and then go away until the money runs out, then home again and repeat.
But like I said, if you give me more info I can help you out a bit more.

ive put myself forward in work to be part of a commitee to help raise funds for our yearly charity in work. looking to see if i can get a few idea's on what can be done in the work place.

one idea so far that has been put across that a jar has been put into the canteen and anyone that swears must put money into the jar.

one other idea i had was to see if i could collect one or two baby pictures of staff and maybe get people to guess which staff member is matched to what pic but not sure if that is the right way to go about it.

anyway can't really think of any other idea's.

if anyone has any good suggestions for small ways to raise money would love your idea's

The function of the Ladies Lounge is as a platform for women to discuss issues from a female perspective - using the forum/tLL posters to poll for general ideas isn't part of the remit so I've moved your post to the Volunteerism forum - think you'll get better/more specialised advice here.

    All the best

If you have your head around an idea you may find the Event Management Forum helpful, but be careful to read the forum charter there before posting.

First of all, congrats on getting your fundraising started! Raising support for a worthy cause can be super rewarding. But obviously, if you're not an official non-profit, it can be really tricky finding a good way to build support for your cause.

One route you might want to consider: setting up a homepage for your group on a fundraising website. Having a group homepage online makes organizing and fundraising infinitely easier ... And though the majority of fundraising sites require you have official non-profit status, many good ones only require that you are a group - and will give you plenty of the tools you need.

For example, one good site is Meet Up (meetup.com), who allow you to fundraise directly to your account, and register a group without having an official non-profit status - and they cover groups around the world, while giving you some tools to do event management. But the tools they offer are a little limited outside of fundraising.

Another good option would be Empowered.org (empowered.org), a platform that also helps small groups fundraise and organize (regardless of non-profit status). They also work for international groups - and offer a fair amount of useful tools, like the ability to organize your group or to create volunteer activities and fundraising campaigns for more targeted ways to raise support.

Or you could always try to send up your own PayPal account to link to you directly to help you fundraise, but this is a little trickier and a bit inflexible.

Good luck getting started moving forward! Hope that helped.

So I've got about 5 months before I head off volunteering. Last year, I did a cake sale/table quiz and such and didn't think it yielded an awful lot of money for the effort put in. Was wondering about what the BEST way of fundraising money is? I'm thinking I'll do a skydive anyway, and a cake sale at work [always raises a lot] - anything else that I could do? Was half thinking of getting a gig organised with local bands and such, but ones that would be sure to get a crowd! How do I go about this, or is that a useless idea to raise money?!

I'm considering bag packing as an option for fundraising. There are 2 things: 1] Getting a date in a supermarket as I realise some just don't allow it, and others book up pretty quickly and 2] Some/most [?] people don't appreciate it.

    Opinions?

P.S. If It makes a blind bit of difference, I worked in a supermarket for 6 years and know how to pack a bag!!!!

  • Registered Users Posts: 371 ✭✭Teagwee

If you have a really good crowd of people to do the shifts you need in a busy supermarket, bag packing is a good earner. The slots get booked up really quickly - sometimes months in advance - so you'll need to check it out.
Otherwise, my advice for fundraising is to do something that people are willing to pay for/go to rather than just sponshorship. This type of approach has worked best for the community groups and charities that I've volunteered for in the past. Things like auctions, X Factor, fashion shows etc but they all require a LOT of help. Good luck.
